It seems every theme park wants in on the magic of the Disney 100 Years of Wonder celebration, even if that means a little friendly competition.
Kicking off at the Disneyland Resort on January 27, 2023, the anniversary festivities marking a century of Walt Disney’s storytelling legacy through the Walt Disney Studios and other divisions of the Walt Disney Company will then move to Disney Parks worldwide. Coincidentally, the 27 is also the opening date for The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen at Universal Citywalk Hollywood, with a new event from one of Disney’s closest neighbors the very next day.

Begun in 1923 as a humble berry stand on the Knott family farm, after realizing the success of his wife’s preserves, chicken dinners, and his roadside attractions, Walter Knott began opening what today is the Knott’s Berry Farm Theme Park. In fact, The Knotts became quite close with the Disney family, with Walt (Disney) presenting his initial idea for Disneyland to shareholders from Mrs. Knott’s Kitchen at the Park.
Moreover, the Knott couple even attended exclusive opening day festivities for Disneyland Park in 1955. Indeed, it seems the legacies of these two theme parks are complexly intertwined, with Knott’s also celebrating a century of fun for the whole family this year.

Could this be why its annual Seasons of Fun will introduce this year’s Peanuts Celebration, dedicated to Charles M. Schulz’s beloved Peanuts characters from his classic comic strip and its ensuing global franchise, the day after Disney’s 100 Years of Wonder debuts? As described on the Knott’s website, this “unique family event” will allow Guests to “step inside the pages of a Charles M. Schulz comic strip as the PEANUTS characters take over the entire Park.”
For instance, entertainment offerings during the celebration include Snoopy’s Legendary Rooftop Concert, Charlie Brown’s Trivia Challenge, To the Moon: Snoopy Soars With NASA, Pigpen’s Pig Pen, Peanuts Cowboy Jamboree, and the It’s Your Life, Charlie Brown game show at locations such as Camp Snoopy, Calico Ghost Town’s Bird Cage Theatre, and the Boardwalk BBQ. This IP might potentially compete with Disneyland’s Wondrous Journeys fireworks, World of Color – One, and Magic Happens Parade.

Even better, daily admission prices begin at just $59.99 per Guest, in stark contrast to that of the neighboring Disneyland Resort in California, whose cheapest advertised admission is almost twice as high. However, perhaps rather than trying to steal customers from one another, all three Southern California theme parks are hoping to capitalize on the influx of Guests due to the Disney100 celebration, Mickey’s Toontown reveals, Peanuts Celebration, and opening of Super Nintendo World within the next two months.
