When you visit a Disney theme park, there are certain rules that you agree to follow while you are there. Your theme park ticket or Magic Key (AKA Disneyland Annual Pass) will come with a contract that you agree to. That contract says that you will follow all rules and regulations put in place by Disneyland Resort. Disneyland has rules when it comes to things like line cutting, running, shouting and cursing, and appropriate theme park attire.

Disneyland and Walt Disney World’s dress code has become somewhat of a point of contention over the past few years.

For many years, guests violating Disney’s dress code would be given a coupon to redeem for a free item to replace what they were wearing. For example, if a guest were wearing an inappropriate shirt, they would be allowed to get a Disney shirt for free.

Well, thanks to social media, Disney’s kindness was soon taken advantage of. Social media users would tell their followers a “hack” to get “free” merchandise. That “hack” would be purposefully wearing inappropriate clothing so you could get a free replacement. Disney caught on to what was happening and no longer offers a replacement. Guests are told to either leave the parks and change or purchase the item they need to fit the dress code standards.

Many guests have gone viral for being “dress-coded” while visiting the parks. Some of them appear to have dressed inappropriately on purpose — so they could get attention — while others were legitimately confused as to why they were being targeted by Disney.

But it appears that Disney’s dress code rules do not apply to everyone, and fans are not happy about it.

On April 17, rapper Kanye West visited The Happiest Place on Earth with his wife, Bianca Censori. The two were filmed walking around the park with a Disney VIP cast member, but it wasn’t just their presence that garnered headlines. It was the outfit that Censori was wearing that day. She is known for her interesting fashion choices and revealing outfits.

During their Disneyland date, the Australian model was wearing a tan outfit, but didn’t have any shoes on. Instead, it looked like she had taken ACE bandages and wrapped them around her feet and ankles.

Many fans voiced their disappointment that Disney would allow someone to so blatantly violate its dress code policy, simply because they are a celebrity.

I know damn well if any of us showed up with no shoes and wrapped like this, we wouldn’t be able to go into Disneyland

Others pointed out that they had been dress-coded for much less serious violations.

My husband had to buy a shirt because they said his tank top was too revealing at Disney. How is her outfit okay?

Some suggested that Ms. Censori was not wearing shoes around the parks because Kanye did not want her to.

Why does Kanye have Bianca walking around Disneyland with no shoes on????

The Disneyland Resort website specifically states that guests must wear “appropriate attire” while in the parks, that includes shoes.

Proper attire, including shoes and shirts, must be worn at all times. Clothing that drags on the ground is prohibited in theme parks. Clothing with multiple layers is subject to search. We reserve the right to deny admission to or remove any person wearing attire that we consider inappropriate or attire that could detract from the experience of other Guests.

In addition to being annoyed that Disney would let her break the rules, many looked at it from a more practical matter. How are her feet not killing her from walking around barefoot? Wasn’t she grossed out by all the dirt and germs that are on the ground at Disney?

Regardless, Disney should hold all guests to the same standard, whether or not they have celebrity status.

Do you think Disney should have enforced its dress code with Ms. Censori? Let us know in the comments!

  1. YES, OF COURSE!

Celebrity or not be consistent in dress code enforcement, etc. you shouldn’t have two sets of rules ,one for regular people, like us and another for celebrities, like them ,how is that fair?

  3. Absolutely! Do better, Disney. How can your standards be so swayed based on status? Any “normal” person would never have been allowed to be barefoot in the park, and no one wants to see her flaunting her fake enhancements. Gross!
