Kali River Rapids to Close for Annual Refurbishment Next Month
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is preparing for its seasonal maintenance as Kali River Rapids closes for refurbishment beginning October 6, with plans to reopen in December. The closure ensures the popular water ride is refreshed ahead of the busy holiday season.

This work is part of Kali River Rapids’ annual maintenance cycle, which keeps the ride operating safely and reliably. Each year, Disney conducts thorough inspections, cleaning, and updates to maintain the water systems, scenery, and overall guest experience.
Kali River Rapids has long been a fan favorite, offering a thrilling whitewater adventure through the rivers of Asia, complete with cascading waterfalls and lush scenery. The refurbishment will include routine maintenance, safety inspections, and updates to ensure the attraction continues to operate smoothly for years to come.
Planning Your Visit
Guests visiting Animal Kingdom this fall and winter should plan around the temporary closure. Disney regularly shares updates on ride status and reopening timelines through official channels, helping fans make the most of their time in the park.
With Kali River Rapids returning in December, visitors can enjoy the attraction before DinoLand U.S.A. undergoes its transformation into the Tropical Americas land in 2027, which will feature major Encanto- and Indiana Jones-themed adventures. This timing ensures that guests can still experience one of Animal Kingdom’s signature rides while looking forward to the park’s next immersive storytelling chapter.
