‘Jurassic Park’ Sequel Set Between Movies Has the Longest Runtime

Since the release of Jurassic Park (1993), the franchise has largely been defined by its theatrical entries, from The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) through to Jurassic World Rebirth (2025). Each installment has built on the core premise of humans confronting the consequences of resurrecting dinosaurs, with runtimes typically falling within a relatively tight window of just over two hours.

That structure has shaped how the series delivers tension, character development, and spectacle. Whether it’s the original film’s contained story on Isla Nublar or the global stakes introduced in Jurassic World Dominion (2022), the films have consistently relied on concise storytelling to balance action sequences with narrative progression.

Outside of cinema, however, the Jurassic franchise has explored many other different formats. Video games such as Jurassic World Evolution (2018) have allowed players to engage with the world in more open-ended ways, focusing on park management and simulation rather than linear storytelling. These projects have expanded the scope of the franchise, but they have not typically mirrored the narrative focus of the films themselves.

That’s where Jurassic Park: Survival (TBA) begins to stand apart. Set on Isla Nublar in the direct aftermath of the 1993 film, the upcoming title is designed as a story-driven, single-player experience, placing players directly within the events surrounding the park’s collapse. Unlike previous games tied to the franchise, it emphasizes immersion and continuity within the original film’s setting.

As a result, Jurassic Park: Survival is naturally expected to run significantly longer than any of the films in the series. The extended runtime reflects its interactive format, allowing the story to unfold over a much longer period than a traditional movie.

This approach creates space for more detailed exploration of Isla Nublar, as well as prolonged encounters with dinosaurs that would typically be condensed into shorter sequences on screen.
