According to popular children’s media star JoJo Siwa, the Walt Disney World Resort remains one of the most pivotal sites in her life due to its relationship to her realizations of identity and romance.
Siwa, now 19, got her start as a media personality through appearances on the popular reality TV show Dance Moms. Since then, Siwa has become an icon for younger generations due to her positive branding, fun style, and children’s show appearances, such as a guest-starring role on the latest season of Disney+’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series as the girlfriend of Maddox, one of the newer characters.

Moreover, Disney remains an important interest for Siwa, who visits theme parks often both for promotional material and for leisure with friends. In fact, the dancer, singer, actor confesses that Disney Parks have featured during some of the most important periods in her life, such as being the place where she first realized her sexuality, fell in love, and experienced first heartbreak.
Plus, Siwa revealed that the Orlando Resort was where she had some of her “really fun,” but also “really hard memories,” which caused her to grow “at lot at Disney.” As reported by the Daily Mail:
I fell in love for the first time at Disney World. I realized I was gay at Disney World. I went through stages of heartbreak at Disney World. There’s been a lot in my personal life that Disney World has really attributed to.

For example, the Dance moms alumnus visited Walt Disney World with her brother Jayden Siwa, his girlfriend, and her friend at the time Kylie Prew, 18, whom Siwa became acquainted within three years ago while on a cruise. Apparently, during a two week vacation at the Parks, Siwa and Prew grew closer through the “tension” of sitting beside one another on every ride, and mimicking the romantic behavior of her brother and his partner for laughs, but later just to hold each other’s hands.
Eventually, JoJo realized she had developed an attraction to her friend while “being in the most magical place in the world,” which was “so cool” and contributed to some “really fun, happy memories here.” Siwa has since come out as gay in January of 2021, cementing her status as a role model and iconic figure for young children of all ages, but especially those questioning their gender identity or sexuality.

Furthermore, Siwa described the happiness she feels just thinking on the memories, despite the fact that she and Prew are no longer together. Unfortunately, the pair broke up for the first time in 2021, then resumed their relationship, which according to Prew ended over this summer for a second time.
Most recently, JoJo did an interview with PEOPLE about her connection to the Walt Disney World Resort while promoting the soft-opening of TRON Lightcycle / Run.
