Johnny Depp Paid $50k for WHAT!?!?

Johnny Depp has stolen America’s heart as he fought to clear up his good name last year. We discovered this actor has been a victim of abuse at the hands of ex-wife Amber Heard but despite that, never lost the essence of who he was. At his core. He is a generous and kind free spirit who delights in bringing joy to others. Recently a report has uncovered just how deep that generosity goes.

When Depp was filming Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, he showed the world just how big his heart actually was. The filming took place during some of the coldest months in the United Kingdom. In the winter, the U.K can get pretty cold. Depp noticed that the crew lacked warm coats to keep them from freezing during filming where sea winds whipped the cold temperatures and he decided to take matters into his own hands.

He went out and bought the entire crew a warm, protective coat. This was no small feat considering there were more than 500 people on the crew. All together, he spent over $50,000 to make sure the crew (who are not paid nearly what the actors are) had something warm to wear on set.

One crew member spoke about the generous gesture, saying, “Johnny paid out of his own pocket for all 500 of us to have nice warm waterproof [coats] It’s a great morale boost and another example of why he is one of the nicest people in Hollywood.” This is in line with what others have said about him in the past. While someone with an acting career as extensive (and impressive) as Depps could very easily be a self-centered jerk, he has loved that time and time again he has a huge heart and generous soul.

The act of kindness led to one fan calling him a “true captain”:

It’s unknown at this time whether Depp will reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow but it is doubtful. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has been enthusiastic about his willingness for the actor to return to his iconic role but says it is “entirely up to Disney”. Disney, for the most part, seems unwilling to budge on the topic which means Johnny Depp may well have sailed on the Black Pearl for the last time.
