Jamie Lee Curtis, known to horror fans as the original “Final Girl” Laurie Strode, may not be entirely done with the Halloween franchise. After seven appearances spanning over four decades, Curtis recently hinted at the possibility of a return, despite the conclusion of her character’s arc in Halloween Ends (2022).
Curtis first played Laurie Strode in John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978) and reprised her role in Halloween II (1981). Following a 20-year absence, she returned for Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998), a film intended to provide closure with Laurie finally escaping the wrath of her evil brother, Michael Myers (Chris Durand). However, the 2003 sequel, Halloween: Resurrection, undid this ending by bringing back Michael Myers (Brad Loree) and killing off Laurie in the opening scenes. Curtis’s journey seemed complete at that point.
Then, in 2018, Curtis returned once more for David Gordon Green’s reboot, which erased all previous sequels after Carpenter’s original. This version of Laurie Strode appeared in Green’s trilogy, which included Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills (2021), and Halloween Ends (2022). The latter film was marketed as Curtis’s last performance as Laurie Strode, but in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly (EW), Curtis hinted that her journey with the franchise might not be over just yet.

“I have hung up my bell-bottoms and my pale blue button-down shirt, and I have relinquished [Laurie Strode] to the ages with a warm, ‘aloha,’ and a thanks for all the years and memories,” Curtis told EW, emphasizing her apparent farewell. However, she continued with a cryptic note, adding, “And yet, if I’ve learned anything in my 65 years on the planet, it’s never say never.” Curtis reportedly ended the call without elaborating further, which has sparked speculation about her potential future with the franchise.
Halloween Ends concluded both Curtis’s involvement and Green’s trilogy, which presented a final showdown between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney). The film marked the first time in the franchise’s history that Michael Myers was definitively killed on-screen, effectively closing this chapter. However, the Halloween franchise appears far from over, with a new television series currently in development by Trancas and Miramax. Additionally, a brand-new Halloween video game—one that director John Carpenter is reportedly “intimately involved with”—is also in the works.
Jamie Lee Curtis has portrayed the character of Laurie Strode across multiple timelines and reboots. Each time, her return has generated substantial fan interest and has helped keep the franchise in the spotlight. Now, with the franchise shifting toward new formats, such as the upcoming series and video game, could Curtis’s “never say never” mean a role in one of these new projects? Only time will tell.
