How To Select The Right Disney Package For Your Family

Disney has made planning your vacation so easy that anyone can do it, from the comfort of your own home. Disneyworld.disney.go.com puts every piece of information you will ever need right at your fingertips. You can pick your resort, buy tickets to the theme parks, reserve transportation to and from the airport, book meal reservations and FastPasses for your favorite rides and attractions, and even book tours and special events. While the process itself is easy, and you can book everything mentioned above very simply online, that doesn’t mean the decision of which package to choose for your family is easy. Far from it. It is something that requires pre-planning as well: if you wait too long, you may miss out on the resort or deal you want, as most of the time the popular resorts and incentives book up very quickly.

So what do you need to take into consideration when it comes to your family and the perfect Disney package? Well, let’s start with the resort. What does your family intend to do on vacation? First, plan out the length of your vacation. How many days do you want to have in the parks? Do you want to spend some time enjoying your resort, or are you going to be in the parks from open to close? If you aren’t going to be spending a lot of your time in your resort, then choosing one of the value level resorts is probably your best bet. Why spend money on amenities you aren’t going to use? If, however, you do want to spend time at the resorts enjoying those fabulous amenities, then take a look at one of the moderate level resorts or even a deluxe resort for a truly magical and unforgettable vacation. Facilities include high-end restaurants, stunning pools and lots of activities for kids and kids at heart.

If you’re lucky enough to be booking during the free dining deal, this will help you with the dining portion of your package. Walt Disney World has many options when it comes to dining. There are packages that include only counter service restaurants (if you are going during free dining, this is what is included in your package if you are staying at a value level resort. A hint: pay a bit extra to upgrade to the regular dining plan – it is well worth it). The regular dining plan includes one counter service, one snack and one table service meal per day, and is included with a free dining package at moderate or deluxe resorts. Deluxe dining is also an option, for heavy eaters. It includes 3 meals per day (lunch and dinner come with an appetizer and a dessert) as well as 2 snacks. We have always found one snack and 2 meals a day to be quite a lot of food, so unless you’re a big eater, you’ll probably be fine with the regular plan.

Choosing your park tickets is quite possibly the most important aspect of your Disney vacation. How many days do you want to spend in the parks? Do you want to spend time in the water parks? Do you want to limit yourself to one park per day, or do you want access to multiple parks per day? This may make your decision easer: if you decide you want to do the park hopper or the waterparks, go ahead and grab the other as well. The price difference is so minimal, it just makes sense. The same goes for your park tickets. If you are already getting 5 days’ worth of park tickets, don’t hesitate to pick up a 6th or even 7th day; it will cost you as little as $10 more per day and you won’t regret it.

So here is where the packages come in. The regular packages include your resort, your park tickets, transportation to and from the airport, transportation to the parks on the Disney Transportation Service, and even discounts throughout Walt Disney World at restaurants and shops. If you wish to add dining, you can, and that extends your plan options a bit. You have the Magic Your Way Plus Quick Service Dining, Plus Dining or Plus Deluxe Dining. As mentioned above, this comes down to how you spend your days. If you plan to be on the go constantly, then stopping for sit down restaurants might not be your style, and you may want to stick with the quick service option. The Premium Package really adds an extra level to your Walt Disney World vacation. You’ll enjoy the deluxe dining package, tickets to Cirque De Soleil (side note: it is amazing), unlimited use of select recreational activities like parasailing, waterskiing and more, and – perhaps the best reason to choose a premium package – access to a ton of Walt Disney World tours for free (for the Keys to the Magic Kingdom tour alone, this is worth it). But wait, there’s more! If you are looking for that once in a lifetime vacation package, go Platinum. It includes everything in the Premium package, and adds spa treatments and a fireworks cruise where you will enjoy the fireworks at Epcot or Magic Kingdom like never before.

So what’s most important to you for your vacation? Is this a vacation you plan to do only once, or is this something you do every year? Think about the kind of getaway you are looking for, and answer some questions and you will figure out just which option works for you. The key thing to keep in mind is that whatever you choose, your Walt Disney World vacation will be magical beyond your expectations.
