The buzz of a new attraction is always exciting for fans of Walt Disney World. A new ride, a new experience, a new anything can be exciting when it’s coming to Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, or EPCOT!
But thoughts on this attraction have been mixed ever since it was first announced, with only a minority of voices remaining optimistic.
In the majority’s defense, however…this attraction was doomed before it ever began. We’re talking, of course, about EPCOT’s upcoming experience, Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana.

This Project May Have Been Dead In the Water Before It Ever Began…
Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana is an upcoming attraction in EPCOT, which is centered entirely around the life cycle, the importance, and the appreciation of water.
By now, guests have been waiting years for this attraction. But in that time, the excitement has stayed lukewarm, and we can totally see why.
Unlike EPCOT’s most popular experiences, such as Soarin’ Around the World or Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana is an entirely outdoor, entirely self-guided experience.
While this may not sound so bad at first, it only takes seconds to remember Florida’s rather unforgiving climate.

It Never Even Had a Chance!
However, it seems that we may be in for a surprise, as one source was among the lucky few who got to experience the attraction alongside two of Walt Disney Imagineering’s finest: the lead concept designer (Reid Ekman) and the creative producer (Chelsea Whikeheart). What they had to say may just turn the tide for audiences’ excitement regarding this attraction.
Without spoiling the attraction, here’s what we have gathered from the report: this attraction is accessible and interactive, giving guests a lot of control over their experience.

Could the Tides Be Turning?
That is to say, guests can choose whether they stay dry or get wet during this tour. They also don’t need to purchase a MagicBand or a MagicBand+ to properly experience this outdoor attraction, which is an added bonus in our book.
According to the report, this attraction is fun, educational, and sure to bring strangers together as they play and learn about the water cycle.

This Attraction Sounds Interesting! Interestingly Uncomfortable…
That being said, Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana is not going to be everybody’s cup of tea. While this first impression is better than we were expecting, it doesn’t change the fact that this attraction is still an outdoor tour with no air conditioning.
At this time, we don’t have an exact opening date for EPCOT’s upcoming experience. According to Walt Disney World, Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana is scheduled to open later this year.
