Guests Caught Using Injectable Drugs at Disney’s Flight of Passage: Did Disney Do Enough?

A recent incident at Disney’s Avatar Flight of Passage in Animal Kingdom has sparked concern among park-goers after a guest reported an unsettling experience involving drug use in the attraction’s queue. The situation escalated, leading to intervention from Disney security, and questions about the park’s safety protocols are now being raised.

According to a Disney College Program cast member who shared the incident online, two guests were using substances while waiting in line for the popular attraction. The cast member described the event: “One time while working Flight of Passage, we had two guests using substances of the injectable variety in our queue.” To contain the situation, the decision was made to allow the guests to continue through the ride until law enforcement could arrive, with the cast member further explaining, “We had to put them on the ride until police/security could get them.”

Security Concerns and Protocol Gaps

This situation raises significant concerns about the safety of Avatar Flight of Passage, a ride known for its immersive technology that simulates flying on a banshee through Pandora. Given the intensity of the ride, it is particularly worrisome that guests under the influence of substances could be allowed to experience it. The event highlights the need for clear and effective security protocols to ensure guest safety, especially when dealing with intoxicated or disruptive individuals.

While Disney typically has strict rules in place for dealing with guest behavior, the cast member’s account suggests that more could be done to address situations like these in real-time, before allowing guests to board attractions. The question remains whether Disney’s current security measures are robust enough to prevent such incidents in the future.

The Role of Disney’s Security and Staff Training

While the situation was ultimately resolved with the involvement of law enforcement, it raises concerns about how situations involving substances are handled in real-time. Disney is known for providing high levels of training to its security staff and cast members, but this incident serves as a reminder that these protocols need to be continuously reviewed to keep pace with the challenges faced by large-scale theme parks.

Ensuring the safety of all guests should remain the top priority in any theme park setting, and this recent incident highlights just how essential it is for Disney to take immediate action when dealing with potential threats. While Disney has a reputation for maintaining a safe and immersive environment, incidents like this may push the company to refine its policies and procedures to better manage high-risk situations.

For now, visitors will likely be hoping that Disney continues to evaluate its processes and take steps to prevent future incidents. As the popularity of Avatar Flight of Passage continues to grow, ensuring that safety remains a key priority will be essential for keeping the attraction fun and, most importantly, safe for everyone.
