Since its opening date, EPCOT has been delighting Guests from all over the world. Classic EPCOT rides include Soarin’ Around the World, Spaceship Earth, Mission: SPACE, and Test Track.
But newer attractions such as Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and Frozen Ever After have only been entertaining Guests for a short amount of time compared to the classic attractions.
However, one fan of Walt Disney World was recently perusing the EPCOT map on the My Disney Experience app, and they noticed something new…or was it?
In this social media post, one fan asks if the pirate ship behind the America Gardens Theatre is a new addition or not.
For reference, here is what the pirate ship looks like on the My Disney Experience app:
Although it may look like a new addition, it’s actually been an EPCOT structure for years!
This ship is named the Golden Dream, and is reportedly a “historically accurate replica of a 1776 Continental rum runner” sailing ship. The Golden Dream was first built and placed in the World Showcase Lagoon in 1993.
It was damaged in 2004 due to a vicious hurricane that plagued Florida, including all four Walt Disney World theme parks, and promptly removed from the World Showcase Lagoon. Two years later, in 2006, a new and improved Golden Dream was placed back into the body of water.
Now, it remains just outside of the American Adventure pavilion in the World Showcase.
