Former Disney Channel Star Opens Up About Shocking Face Shooting Incident

However, on February 8, Romano took to Instagram to share a terrifying experience—one that nearly cost her her vision.
In an emotional Instagram post, she revealed that she had been involved in a shooting accident while celebrating her husband’s birthday, leaving her with multiple facial injuries and a fragment lodged dangerously close to her eye.
A Day at the Shooting Range Turns Dangerous
Romano explained that she had planned a special outing for her husband’s birthday, taking him to shoot clay pigeons.

While the activity is generally safe when proper precautions are followed, another party at the range was not being careful, leading to a serious accident.
“Yesterday was my husband’s birthday and I took him to shoot clay pigeons as a present. There was another party with us and they unsafely fired in the wrong direction and shot me in the face.”
Her husband, Brendan Rooney, quickly assessed the situation and rushed Romano to the hospital. Doctors discovered that she had been hit in five places, with one fragment landing dangerously close to her right eye.
“I was hit in 5 places, one was less than an inch from hitting me directly in my right eye.”

Unfortunately, one piece of projectile is lodged behind her eye, and doctors have determined that it is too risky to remove at this time. Romano assured fans that she can currently see normally but will continue to be monitored by medical professionals.
“Unfortunately a fragment got lodged behind my eye and it is too risky to remove surgically at this time. Doctors will continue to monitor me (I can see normally at the moment).”
A Life-Changing Experience
In her heartfelt post, Romano expressed gratitude that the accident was not worse. She reflected on how fragile life can be and urged her followers to cherish their loved ones.
“With everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive. I love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much. I saw my life flash before my eyes and I’m telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant.”
Fans, friends, and fellow celebrities quickly flooded the comments section of Romano’s post with messages of support.
Many expressed relief that she was not more seriously injured and praised her for sharing her story as a cautionary reminder about the importance of safety.
Her husband, Brendan Rooney, also left a heartfelt comment on her post, calling Romano “the bravest, toughest, most stoic, and badass woman” he has ever met. He also emphasized his gratitude that she survived, saying he “could not live without her.”
