Assuming you’re a fan of Micky Mouse and things that go bump in the night, you’ve come to the right place! As spooky season hits full swing, you can already find a virtual smorgasbord of Disney Halloween favorites available for streaming, including Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown. However, Disney+ is bringing one of your childhood favorites to life with its new Goosebumps series beginning next month. You probably remember Goosebumps from your middle school Scholastic book fair when you were younger. Written by R.L. Stine, the series, which contains over 200 books, has sold 400+ million copies worldwide. The popularity of Goosebumps saw its peak in the late 1990’s culminating in a Fox Kid series that began in 1995. Since then, Goosebumps has seen two feature films led by Jack Black, featuring one of their more memorable characters, Slappy the Doll.
Since April of 2000, a reboot for the original Goosebumps series has been in the works. However, unlike the original, which highlighted different stories from various R.L. Stine books, the new series will follow a group of high-schoolers who unwittingly unleash supernatural power upon their small town, much like the two movies. The series will employ a few unfamiliar names like Ana Yi Puig and Zack Morris (no, not that Zack Morris), but it brings along a few familiar faces as well in Justin Long (Jeepers Creepers) and Rachael Harris (Diary of a Wimpy Kid). Written by Rob Letterman and Nick Stroller, the 10-episode series should be a frighteningly good time.
Thanks to TheWrap , fans excited for the new Disney+ show got their first look in a released image from the new Goosebumps reboot.
Goosebumps is sure to provide a ton of spooky fun to your holiday movie watching schedule this fall. Based loosely on the extremely popular book series, what could go wrong? Although many of the actors in the photo are relatively unknown, they do all have decent film credits to their name. For instance, Will Price, who worked on the the show The Equalizer is no stranger to film to series reboots. Miles McKenna also played a role in the 2018 film Nocturne. McKenna, who has made a living as a vlogger is also a notable LGBTQ+ advocate who is heavily active on YouTube. McKenna, a trans man, boasts over a million subscribers to his channel which takes a comedic comentary on LGBTQ issues.
Although no actual release date has been set in stone, Goosebumps is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ beginning in October 2023, bringing the sinister world of R.L. Stine back to the screen.
