On August 19 and August 20, The Walt Disney Company will host its Annual Veteran’s Institute Summit at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at the Walt Disney World Resort. Disney hosts the Veterans Summit as a way to help teach companies and other organizations how to improve upon their veteran hiring practices. The Summit will talk about not only veteran hiring practices, but will also feature veterans speaking about how these hiring organizations helped them after they transitioned into life after their military service.
There will be a number of exciting speakers at the event including Chairman of Disney Parks, Products, and Experiences, Josh D’Amaro, and David Bellavia, a recipient of the Medal of Honor. Disney has also shared that First Lady Dr. Jill Biden will make opening remarks to the Summit. Disney Parks Blog shared more on the exciting news:
Support for the families of our service members and veterans, their caregivers, and survivors is a key priority of the First Lady and has been a cause that she has tirelessly worked on for more than a decade. Dr. Biden, alongside First Lady Michelle Obama created Joining Forces in 2011 to bring Americans together to recognize, honor and take action to support military families, and relaunched the initiative when she became First Lady in 2021. Joining Forces focuses on military spouse employment, military child education and health and wellbeing, and we are honored that she will be accompanying us. This important event will showcase the value of military spouses and veterans in the workplace, share best hiring practices and encourage greater employment opportunities for the military and veteran community.
This is not the first time that the First Lady has headed to the Walt Disney World Resort. Dr. Biden — who received her Doctorate in Education — also spoke at the Scripps National Spelling Bee when it was held at the Wide World of Sports Complex in 2021.
The Veterans Summit is being hosted by The Walt Disney Company but is also being sponsored by companies like The Wounded Warrior Project — who have hosted the Warrior Games at Walt Disney World –, Amazon, Hewlett Packard, USAA, and JPMorgan Chase. The event is free to attend for Guests 18 years and older who live in the United States and Canada (except Quebec).
