Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man/Tony Stark and Chris Evans’ Captain America/Steve Rogers exited the Marvel Comics-inspired Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and the franchise has entered a new era post-Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019) — the Multiverse Saga.

“Superhero fatigue” has been a topic on many fans’ lips lately, and with the firing of Jonathan Majors, who portrayed Kang the Conqueror until Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), Marvel Studios is set to reshape the Marvel movie landscape once more.
Following Majors’ departure, it seems like Marvel President Kevin Feige is likely considering a transition from the Multiverse Saga to a new Mutant Saga, seeing as merging 20th Century Fox (now 20th Century Studios) X-Men universe into the MCU — as seen in Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) — is top priority. After that, it seems grandfathering in other former Fox properties like Fantastic Four seems to also be of major importance.
Naturally, the fifth Avengers film (once Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and now titled Avengers: Doomsday) is in development, centering around Robert Downey Jr. as the supervillain Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom. Avengers: Secret Wars is set to follow, promising to be Marvel’s new answer to Endgame.
Secret Wars will ostensibly bring superheroes of various creeds and colors (and universes) together to fight — with or against each other — in one epic final battle. Now, an intriguing new report indicates that a fan-favorite X-Men actor will rejoin the MCU — even if fans are expressing worry about this alleged choice.

Welcome Back, Professor X
According to the anonymous insider My Time To Shine Hello, it seems as if the MCU is set to see none other than the omega-level mutant and telepath, Charles Xavier.
Showing up for a cameo appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), Professor Charles Xavier/Professor X played by beloved X-Men icon Sir Patrick Stewart (Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: Picard), was unfortunately murdered by Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen). That was not the original X-Men universe variant of the hero, however.
Now, it seems that the original Professor X might be joining the fray, possibly:
Just confirmed he will return for Secret Wars

I’d be more concerned about Patrick Stewart still being alive by the time this starts filming

It seems that many are worried about the future of the MCU and how the Secret Wars movie will eventually pan out:
Him, Samuel L Jackson, Ian McKellen and even Harrison Ford. I believe they’d all be included somehow. Time is ticking in real life. It’s a shame it took so long to get certain rights back for characters. But would be poetry in motion for the perfect send off.

With Anthony and Joe Russo, AKA the Russo Brothers, who directed Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame returning to the MCU for the big send-off, we will simply have to wait to find out if the great Patrick Stewart will join in on the action.

More on the X-Men
The Fox X-Men series, based on Marvel Comics, followed mutants with extraordinary powers as they navigated the challenges of modern society. At the heart of the story was the ideological conflict between Professor X and Magneto, whose opposing views on mutant-human coexistence created deep divisions within the mutant community.
The series featured standout performances, including Patrick Stewart as Professor X/Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto/Erik Lehnsherr, and a talented ensemble cast such as Halle Berry as Ororo Munroe/Storm, Famke Janssen as Dr. Jean Grey, James Marsden as Scott Summers/Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique/Raven Darkholme, Alan Cumming as Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler, and Anna Paquin as Marie D’Ancanto/Rogue.
Later films like X-Men: First Class (2011), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), and X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) delved into the origins of key characters, introducing younger versions of Professor Xavier, Magneto, and Mystique, portrayed by James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence.
