Eta has once again become a hurricane offshore as it skims by Florida’s Gulf coast Wednesday morning. While the storm isn’t forecast make landfall on Florida before Thursday afternoon tropical-storm-force winds and heavy squalls are already bombarding the Sunshine State’s southwest coast pushing a life-threatening storm surge up the west side of the peninsula.

The latest track has Eta shifting further east and cutting through the upper Central Florida area. Eta sped up Wednesday morning north-northeast at 10 mph after being stationary earlier Tuesday. Eta was forecast to re-intensify to a hurricane Wednesday, but is expected to lose strength before making landfall Thursday afternoon.
