One of the amazing things about actors is their ability to fully embrace and encapsulate the character they are portraying. Actors like Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones) have even admitted in interviews that angry fans have approached them because they dislike them so much.
Of course, if actors who play villains are bad, then the opposite is also true. A lot of fans think that actors who play fun and likable characters must also be fun and likable in real life.

Unfortunately, that is not always the case, and one podcaster learned that the hard way.
Podcaster Taylor Strecker hosts the popular podcast Taste of Taylor and recently had Eric Stonestreet as one of her guests. Stonestreet is most well-known for his role as Cameron Tucker in the hit ABC show Modern Family, which ran from 2009 through 2020. He also appeared in shows like American Horror Story, Monk, NCIS, and Nip/Tuck. He was also the voice of Duke in The Secret Life of Pets (2016) and The Secret Life of Pets 2 (2019).
Strecker told fellow podcaster Paige DeSorbo that she knew Stonestreet through his Modern Family role and thought that he would be friendly, like his character. However, he was anything but. In fact, Strecker called him “nasty” and the worst guest she had ever had on her podcast.
“He’s from Modern Family, and he’s like the chubby, jolly, sweet, funny one. Could he be anything but? Nasty!”
According to Strecker, she did not know that Stonestreet was working with Pepto-Bismol — an over-the-counter medication for things like nausea, heartburn, and indigestion. Stonestreet was apparently upset about this.
“I didn’t know! So we’re talking, we’re talking. I’m like, you know, just being my adorable self. And he’s like, ‘So when are we gonna talk about Pepto-Bismol?’”
“I said, ‘I have hemorrhoids. I’m the queen of diarrhea. I love Pepto-Bismol! We can talk about whatever you want,’ And he said to me — and I quote — ‘Somebody didn’t do their homework.’”

Strecker said that she did not appreciate the comment, since she was not the one getting paid by Pepto-Bismol. She said that it was Stonestreet’s job to figure out how to bring up his work with the company; it was not her job to ask about it.
DeSorbo lightened up the moment by saying that she would call Stonestreet’s Modern Family costar Sofía Vergara to figure out what was going on.

Strecker’s comments had fans divided, with some defending the actor and others seemingly confirming that Stonestreet isn’t as nice as a lot of people think he is. There were those who also agreed with Stonestreet. They said that Strecker should have done her research, so she would have known about his partnership and could have spoken to him about it.
If you are a fan of Stonestreet, you can head on over to Disney+ and watch The Santa Clauses, where he portrays Magnus Antas, AKA The Mad Santa in season 2.
