Guests Flee Blazing Fire at EPCOT Dining Location

A startling fire erupted at EPCOT on Sunday morning, causing a scene at a popular dining location near the Journey Into Imagination With Figment attraction. The fire, which started at a popcorn kiosk, quickly drew the attention of nearby guests and Disney cast members, as smoke poured from the cart.

Disney Park guest Candice Wash captured the incident on video and shared it on Facebook. In the video, Disney cast members can be seen surrounding the popcorn cart as a thick cloud of smoke fills the air. “Fire at EPCOT!” Wash wrote. “Popcorn cart caught fire near Figment this morning!”

Initially, the video shows a small orange glow from the cart, which quickly transforms into billowing black smoke. Thankfully, Disney’s quick response ensured that no one was injured, and the fire was contained before it could escalate. By the time WDWNT reporters arrived at the scene, the fire had already been extinguished, and the area was under control.

Photos shared by WDWNT depict Disney cast members holding fire extinguishers and surrounding the kiosk. The popcorn cart’s glass window, which usually displays the various popcorn flavors, was damaged by smoke, leaving it nearly impossible to see inside. The upper portion of the cart, including a ventilation area, also showed signs of black smoke damage. Despite this, the rest of the kiosk remained intact.

In the aftermath, Disney cast members reopened the right side of the kiosk, which sells frozen treats and bottled drinks. However, the popcorn section was closed to guests, with temporary stanchions blocking the area. For now, guests cannot purchase popcorn at this location while Disney assesses the damage.

Walt Disney World Resort has yet to comment on the cause of the blaze. It’s also unclear when the popcorn kiosk will be back in operation.
