Temporary and Permanent Closures Hit Disney World—Here’s What’s Affected
Headed to Disney World this week? You’re gonna want to read this before you pack those Minnie ears. From shuttered attractions to dining shakeups and full-on land makeovers, Disney’s got a LOT going on behind the construction walls right now. Here’s everything that’s temporarily (or permanently!) closed across the parks, resorts, and water parks for the week of May 4–11, 2025.
EPCOT — Bye for now, Test Track
Test Track is officially CLOSED for a full-blown redesign. Yep, the ride’s going through a transformation that’ll bring in design inspiration from the OG World of Motion days. No reopen date just yet, but we’re hearing it’ll be back by summer.
Magic Kingdom — What’s not running?
It’s a weird time in Tomorrowland:
-
Astro Orbiter? Gone. Dismantled. Disney’s giving it a full off-site refurb and it should return by late summer.
-
Dumbo’s indoor play area? Closed for seasonal updates. So if you were banking on that air conditioning, pivot accordingly.
And over in Frontierland:
-
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has officially entered long-term closure mode. It won’t reopen until sometime in 2026. No, you’re not imagining things — this is a big one.
Animal Kingdom — Say goodbye to bugs (and dinos)
-
It’s Tough to Be a Bug had its final show back in March. It’s being replaced by a Zootopia attraction set to open later this year — so no more Hopper jump scares.
-
DinoLand U.S.A. is under the knife as Disney preps for its next big land: Pueblo Esperanza, a mashup of Encanto and Indiana Jones. Translation: major construction, no dino rides, and lots of walls.
Hollywood Studios — A fan-fave restaurant is on the chopping block
If you love Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, this is your last chance. It’s closing for good on May 11, 2025. No word yet on what’s taking its place, but Disney’s been quietly eyeing that whole Grand Avenue area for changes.
Water Park Swaps
-
Blizzard Beach is still closed — BUT it’s coming back for a limited run from May 21–Sept 7, 2025. This will mark the first time in years that both water parks will be open at the same time. Finally.
BoardWalk + Liberty Square Updates
-
Jellyrolls, the beloved piano bar at Disney’s BoardWalk, closed its doors permanently on April 19. No official word on what’s replacing it yet, but Cast Members have hinted that a reimagined adult lounge could move in.
-
The Hall of Presidents remains closed while Disney updates it following the 2024 election. Expect it to reopen later this year with a new Commander-in-Chief front and center.
Final Tips
Check My Disney Experience daily before you rope drop — these closures change often and without much warning. And if you were hoping to catch a classic like Big Thunder or grab spaghetti at Mama Melrose’s… you’re officially on the clock.
