EPCOT Shuts Down Two Countries, Guests Blocked by Construction

EPCOT guests were recently surprised to encounter construction walls between the Mexico and Norway World Showcase pavilions. Walt Disney World Resort has not yet provided any details about the purpose of this sudden, mysterious construction.

According to WDWNT, the beige-colored construction walls begin next to Donald Duck’s meet-and-greet in the Mexico EPCOT World Showcase Pavilion and extend toward Anna and Elsa’s Royal Sommerhus in the Norway Pavilion. The walls are accompanied by green scrim, which blocks a portion of the pathway and some of the greenery that typically enhances the area. The scrim also surrounds tables and chairs that are usually available for Disney Park guests.

As with many construction zones throughout the Disney parks, the walls are adorned with various PPG Paints-branded signs, each featuring quotes and images inspired by Disney and Pixar characters. Some of these include a Mary Poppins (1964) quote that reads, “Everything is possible. Even the impossible,” and another with Remy from Ratatouille (2007) reading, “Change is nature.”

While construction walls are no stranger to EPCOT, these closures have come as a surprise to many guests. The disruption in the Mexico Pavilion follows the recent refurbishment of the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros attraction, which was completed earlier this year. Additionally, construction has been ongoing in other sections of the World Showcase, including the Canada Pavilion, where scaffolding and walls have surrounded parts of the area since mid-2023.

This construction is likely part of larger plans for the World Showcase, as rumors have circulated about updates and changes to the pavilions in the coming years. In fact, earlier this year, Disney announced that the in-progress space in the Canada Pavilion would soon be home to a new Disney Vacation Club (DVC) lounge, named Château de Voyage.
