EPCOT Update as Attraction Is Changed Again

Walt Disney World Resort continues its remarkable journey into the future, with changes taking shape across all four theme parks—from fresh refurbishments to entire land transformations.

In EPCOT, an aquatic favorite is returning to regular hours. The Seas with Nemo & Friends, which had been quietly closing early since January 17, 2025, is set to resume full-day operation starting May 27. While Disney never issued a formal statement, the early 7:00 p.m. closure had been posted on-site and reflected on the official calendar through May 26. “At EPCOT, guests have noticed a large sandwich board announcing that The Seas with Nemo & Friends will close at 7:00 p.m. this evening,” Kenny the Pirate noted earlier this year.

Behind the scenes, several internal updates were spotted. Expanded walkways, escalator work, and updated safety protocols for diving cast members were all noted during this period. The attraction’s accompanying SeaBase Aquarium also experienced changes—including a temporary absence of the manatees, who were relocated to Gulfarium Marine Adventure Park while their space was roped off. Both the animals and the popular DiveQuest experience have since returned.

Beyond The Seas, EPCOT continues to evolve. CommuniCore Hall, located in World Celebration, is scheduled to close on May 12 to make way for a new limited-time offering: the GoofyCore experience.

Over in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, even more significant changes are taking place. As part of the transformation of DinoLand U.S.A., several attractions have recently closed: TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, and It’s Tough to be a Bug! These exits clear the way for a vibrant new Tropical Americas-themed area called Pueblo Esperanza. Drawing inspiration from Encanto and Indiana Jones, this land will bring fresh storytelling and adventures to the park.

At Magic Kingdom, Frontierland is being reimagined with bold additions. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed on January 13 for an extended refurbishment, with noticeable dismantling already underway. The future of the land includes an expansion tied to Pixar’s Cars franchise—an idea that continues to stir conversation since its unveiling at the 2023 D23 Expo. Alongside that comes a new land themed entirely around Disney Villains, adding thrilling new possibilities to the park’s lineup.

As 2025 progresses, Walt Disney World guests have plenty to look forward to—and for fans of The Seas with Nemo & Friends, the return to full-day hours offers yet another reason to dive back in.

Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his… More »
