Ellen DeGeneres Walks Away From America—and From Disney, Too
Ellen DeGeneres isn’t just closing a chapter—she’s leaving the book behind altogether.
After selling her $27 million estate in Montecito and quietly packing up, the longtime TV host and comedian has officially settled across the Atlantic. Her new home? The tranquil countryside of the United Kingdom. And according to her recent stand-up show in Cheltenham, she has no intention of ever coming back.
DeGeneres revealed that she and her wife, Portia de Rossi, relocated to England right before the most recent presidential election. And when the results showed Donald Trump had won another term, they didn’t think twice. “We’re staying here,” she told the audience, joking about the flood of crying-emoji texts they received from friends back in the U.S.
“Everything’s Better Here”
She raved about the British way of life, praising the charm of the villages, the clean streets, and the respect for animals. “It’s absolutely beautiful,” she said. “Everything here is just better.”
Those comments didn’t sit well with everyone. After all, this is a woman who became a household name thanks to American audiences. Of course, many other fans never noticed that she had left to begin with. Her daytime show ran for nearly two decades, and she famously voiced the lovable Dory in Finding Nemo (2003) and Finding Dory (2016), two of Disney Pixar’s most celebrated animated films.
So… What About Dory?
Ellen’s departure and clear disinterest in returning have fans wondering what this means for the future of the Finding Nemo franchise. While a third film hasn’t been confirmed, her absence casts doubt on whether Dory will ever make a comeback. Could Disney recast the role? Possibly. But the more likely scenario is that the studio quietly retires the character.
Disney has distanced itself from stars in the past, especially when controversies have followed. Ellen’s departure from her talk show was already marred by claims of a toxic workplace. Combine that with her public criticism of the U.S., and it’s safe to assume Disney won’t be going out of its way to keep the relationship alive.
A Quiet Goodbye
Ellen claims she’s “bored” now and spends her time with chickens on her property. But she also hinted that she might pursue new creative projects—just not in Hollywood.
This really does feel like a clean break, which is best considering the amount of controversy Disney already has faced. Not just from television or fame—but from America itself. And with that, it seems her days as a Disney icon are over, too.
