Disney World Just Made a Huge Change at Its Pricey Yacht Club Resort

Walt Disney World Resort is making major updates at its Deluxe Yacht Club Resort, including the temporary closure of the popular Stormalong Bay and Shipwreck Pool as part of an extensive refurbishment. Guests visiting the resort will now find that the pool, a centerpiece of the resort, has been drained and filled with sand to allow for necessary construction work.

Located just steps away from EPCOT and a short boat ride from Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is known for its upscale New England charm and beautiful waterfront views. Offering luxurious accommodations and high-end amenities, this resort is a favorite among guests seeking both proximity to the Disney parks and a more peaceful, upscale experience. However, some Disney Resort offerings are currently unavailable due to the ongoing refurbishments.

One of the key changes is the closure of Stormalong Bay and the Shipwreck Pool. According to a notice from Walt Disney World Resort, guests should expect to see and hear construction during the day as the resort makes upgrades. Despite the construction, most of the resort’s amenities remain open, and the resort has urged guests to read the refurbishment details on its website before booking their stays.

According to WDWNT, construction crews have removed much of the concrete from the pool area and have started filling it with sand. This is a standard procedure to help with the drainage and comfort of the pool’s floor. The pool’s rockwork, which is a signature feature of Stormalong Bay, remains largely intact, although some minor cosmetic updates like paint touch-ups may occur.

Alongside the pool renovations, construction crews are also working on other areas of the Deluxe Disney Resort hotel, including replacing siding and roof shingles. While scaffolding and scrims have been placed around some of the structures, Disney is trying to minimize disruption to guests by performing construction in phases so that not all buildings are covered at once.

The pool is expected to remain closed for the duration of the refurbishment, which will run until June 2025. An exact reopening date has not been announced.
