As most fans will know, this has been quite a turbulent year for Disney. This year, the company has suffered some major issues inside and outside of its Parks. With 2023 only halfway over, the Company has already had to deal with some major PR disasters, Park malfunctions, and less-than-spectacular box office performances. On top of everything, Disney has become a national news story due to its feud with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Now, new polling shows that Disney’s hectic year may not have played in the public’s favor. The company’s already low “reputation rating” plummeted in 2023, causing fans of the company to be concerned.

Disney Fails to Win Over the Public Majority
The Walt Disney Co. has been a household name for decades, known for its beloved characters, magical theme parks, and massive entertainment empire. However, behind the scenes, the company has also made its mark in the world of politics, often with controversial decisions and actions. From its self-governing status to its involvement in political battles, Disney has had their fair share of time in the news spotlight.
Now, Disney is making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Recent data from the 2023 Axios Harris Poll 100 Reputation Rankings shows Disney sitting unfavorably low in the public’s heart this year. According to Axios Harris Poll, “This survey is the result of a partnership between Axios and Harris Poll to gauge the reputation of the most visible brands in America, based on 20 years of Harris Poll research.”

In 2019, during Disney CEO Bob Iger’s first tenure at the company, the company ranked a score above 80, which would categorize the public’s perception as “Excellend.” Disney held onto that lead throughout Mr. Iger’s leadership until 2021, when the rating flew down by 40 spots. Last year in 2022, The Walt Disney Company ended with a 73.4, 65th on the list. In 2023, Disney dropped another 12 spots and ended up with a score of 70.0.

Is Disney to Blame
Many fans are immediately blaming Disney’s political agenda for affecting the public’s opinion. Disney has polarised many of their fans with their “woke agenda,” and many fans feel caught between loving Disney and loving different politics. Many feel that the company’s involvement in United States politics has taken them further and further away from the wholesome image that fans have loved in the past. It is too late not to step back from Disney’s current affairs, especially the ones involving the central Florida legislature, but Disney stepping away from politics is definitely something to watch for in the future.
