Disney’s Live-Action ‘Hercules’ Will Be Inspired By TikTok

If there is one thing that Disney is confident can make them money, it’s live-action remakes. For years, Disney has been making some of its most classic animated stories into live-action films, including Cinderella, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Pinocchio, Aladdin, and many others. Most of the films are close to shot-for-shot remakes. However, Disney has decided to change some of them up and make them unique stories, as they did with the 2020 live-action remake of Mulan.

And now, it looks like one of Disney’s newest live-action remakes will also take a turn from the animated film.

Hercules is being directed by Guy Ritchie and produced by the Russo brothers — who recently revealed in an interview with Variety that the movie will be made for those who have been “trained by TikTok”.

“There are questions about how you translate it as a musical,” Russo says. “Audiences today have been trained by TikTok, right? What is their expectation of what that musical looks like and feels like? That can be a lot of fun and help us push the boundaries a little bit on how you execute a modern musical.”

Producer Joe Russo also said that the film will stray from the shot-for-shot live-action remakes that Disney has become known for. He said that the film will be “experimental”, but did not say how it would go in the experimental direction.

Whereas many of Disney’s recent live-action remakes have been faulted for sticking too closely to the source material, Russo says “Hercules” will be “a little bit more experimental in tone, a little bit more experimental in execution.”

“I think they’re excited to see what we can all bring to it in a way that isn’t just a reinterpretation of the animated film,” Russo adds.

Ritchie is currently working on his own pass of the screenplay from David Callaham (“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”).

It has been 25 years since Disney first released Hercules and a lot has changed since then, so it will be interesting to see how the Russo brothers modernize this film for a modern audience.

Disney has not announced when they expect the new live-action Hercules to be released. It has also not been shared if the movie will come to theaters or be released on Disney+. We also do not have any casting news at this time, but Disney Dining will keep readers updated as we learn more.
