Disney is preparing to launch “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” as a replacement for “Voyage of the Little Mermaid.” This new adaptation promises to deliver a fresh, modern take on the familiar story of Ariel. Set to debut in the newly refurbished Animation Courtyard theater, the production will showcase new set designs, state-of-the-art effects, and a design aesthetic that captures the beauty of Ariel’s adventurous story.

News reporter Scott Gustin recently shared a behind-the-scenes look at preparations for the new production:

NEW: Disney says the debut of “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” theatrical production at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been moved from fall 2024 to summer 2025.

Work is expected to begin in the next few weeks to remove the old show marquee.

Guests can expect to hear beloved songs such as “Part of Your World” and “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” ensuring that the essence of the original classic remains central to this new reimagined experience.

“The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” aims to enhance the already loved elements of the original “Voyage of The Little Mermaid.” While the previous show provided an uplifting musical journey, the updated version seeks to elevate this with advanced theatrical techniques and deeper storytelling. With technology continually advancing, the new show is expected to incorporate visually spectacular elements unavailable when the original show was first conceived.

Where the former offering may have relied heavily on static scenes and puppetry, “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” plans to create a more dynamic environment.
