Disney Issues Extreme Heat Advisory For Sold-Out Event

A trip to Disneyland Resort is always an exciting and magical experience. Even though it can be hot and crowded, there is something extra special about visiting Walt’s original theme park, seeing things the way he imagined. Over the years, Disneyland Resort has expanded from Disneyland Park to include Disney California Adventure and the Downtown Disney District. Disneyland Park has also expanded to include Mickey’s ToonTown and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

While you don’t need to do anything extra to have a great time, there are almost always limited-time experiences being offered throughout the year. Right now, Halloween celebrations are in full swing, and guests can sign up for Disney’s Happiest Haunts Guided Tour and even attend Oogie Boogie Bash over in DCA.

And this year, for the first time ever, Disneyland is hosting the runDisney Halloween Half Marathon Weekend. Participants will make their way through Disneyland, California Adventure, and Downtown Disney, seeing rare characters and taking pictures with some classic villains.

Even though summer is behind us, the summer temperatures are not. In fact, much of Southern California is currently under an extreme heat advisory. Running in that kind of heat can be very dangerous, and runDisney advised participants to be aware of the extreme temperatures during their respective races.

We’re excited to welcome you to the Disneyland® Halloween Half Marathon Weekend, September 5 – 8. As you get ready for this weekend’s events, please be prepared for warm weather with the following tips:
– Stay well hydrated prior to the race with water and electrolyte-based hydration beverages. The events have water stations readily available throughout the courses so you can make sure to stay hydrated on race day.
– Opt for light, airy clothing and costumes for the race and ensure any headwear is breathable and allows heat to escape.
– Be conservative of your pace as to not overextend yourself throughout the race. This may not be the event to attempt your personal best.
– Slow down and ask for assistance at any signs of heat illness, including dizziness, light-headedness or nausea. Prioritize your safety and comfort by taking these warnings seriously.

Now, when participants sign up for any of the runDisney races, they must select the average time that it takes them to complete a mile. That will determine where they are placed in the race. Since Disney wants the races completed before the theme parks open, they are typically strict when it comes to the mile times. Runners who fall too far behind are picked up and taken to the finish line.

With temperatures climbing into the triple digits, runners who push themselves too hard can be put at risk. It is possible that Disney could ease up on the runners, allowing more time than they might have in the past.

All the Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon Weekend races are sold out, but that does not mean that guests can’t still enjoy the fun. Throughout the weekend, runDisney will host a Health & Fitness Expo. The Expo is full of fun merchandise, both from Disney and other sellers. The event is free and open to the public.
