Disneyland’s 5-Year-Old Avengers Campus Faces Condemnation, Calls for Overhaul
Disneyland’s Marvel-themed land isn’t getting much love from fans.
Over the past decade, Disneyland Resort has invested heavily in bringing major film franchises to its theme parks. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened at Disneyland Park in 2019, while Pixar Pier made its debut at neighboring Disney California Adventure Park in 2018.

Another major addition followed in June 2021, when Disney California Adventure opened Avengers Campus. Originally scheduled for 2020, the Marvel-themed land was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic and replaced A Bug’s Land, which closed three years earlier.
Avengers Campus introduced WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, alongside the existing Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! attraction. It also brought Pym Test Kitchen and its supersized (and mini) eats, superhero meet-and-greets, and live entertainment featuring characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Five years later, however, guests are calling for Disney to overhaul the land.
Disneyland Fans Demand Changes to Avengers Campus
In an October 9 Reddit discussion, one Disneyland guest described Avengers Campus as “the worst land in all of California Adventure, maybe even the whole resort.”
Others agreed, with one calling it “one of the worst lands at any Disney property.”

Much of the criticism focused on the land’s design. While other Disney attractions immerse guests in elaborate fictional locations, Avengers Campus resembles an industrial complex, complete with concrete walkways and relatively plain buildings.
One visitor revealed that they and their partner have nicknamed the land “Avengers Business Park.”
Another complained about its proximity to Cars Land, which recreates Radiator Springs from Pixar’s Cars (2006).
“I think the fact that it is right next to Cars Land makes it even worse,” they wrote. “You are IN Radiator Springs! And then you walk into … a big plaza of concrete.”
The absence of shade was another major complaint, particularly from guests who remember A Bug’s Land.
“It’s disgustingly hot in the heat because there are no trees/shade,” one user wrote. “I really miss the relief that Bug’s Land provided during the hotter parts of the year and just the quaint peace that it had.”

Others suggested Disney should introduce more interactive elements, futuristic technology, and recognizable Marvel locations to make Avengers Campus feel less generic.
The land has also lost several entertainment offerings since opening. Doctor Strange: Mysteries of the Mystic Arts ended in 2024, followed by Avengers Assemble! in 2025. Disney also removed live stunt performers from The Amazing Spider-Man!, although the Spider-Man Stuntronic continues.
“The land lacks character, especially now that the superheroes aren’t out as much as they used to be,” one guest complained.
Disney Prepares Major Changes for Marvel Land
Disney is already expanding Avengers Campus, with construction underway on two new attractions.
Avengers Infinity Defense will transport guests across the multiverse to battle King Thanos, featuring appearances from Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, and Ms. Marvel.
Stark Flight Lab will introduce two-person ride vehicles lifted and spun by giant robotic arms, with Robert Downey Jr., Anthony Mackie, and Brie Larson reprising their Marvel roles.

Both attractions are scheduled to open in 2028, doubling the size of Avengers Campus and increasing its ride count from two to four. Disney confirmed the opening year at D23 in August 2026.
The additions will address complaints about the limited ride lineup. However, Disney has not announced a broader redesign of the existing land or major changes to its landscaping.
