A government-issued weather alert has put Walt Disney World Resort guests on notice Wednesday afternoon, with conditions that could shut down outdoor attractions across all four Central Florida theme parks.

The National Weather Service office in Melbourne, Florida, issued an urgent special weather statement on June 24 covering Orange and Osceola counties — the corridor that encompasses Walt Disney World Resort‘s full property footprint. The agency is warning of moderately strong thunderstorms moving through the area, bringing wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour and pea-sized hail. In its own words, the NWS cautioned that “gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecure objects” and that “minor hail damage to vegetation is possible.”

The National Weather Service rated the storm’s severity as “moderate” and its arrival as “expected” — a designation that means radar has confirmed the system is on the way rather than merely possible. The warning remains in effect through 2:30 p.m. EST on Wednesday, June 24.

Anyone currently at Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, or Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park is advised to seek shelter inside a building and remain there until conditions improve. Wind and lightning at the levels forecast are sufficient to trigger temporary closures of outdoor attractions across all four parks, and afternoon entertainment offerings scheduled in open-air venues could be canceled or delayed as a result.

The My Disney Experience app is the most reliable tool for real-time updates on which attractions are operating and which have been suspended due to weather. Disney cast members throughout the parks can also provide guidance on the safest places to wait out the storm and which indoor experiences remain available during the disruption.
