Disney World Confirms Gingerbread House Will Not Return to Grand Floridian in 2026

A beloved Walt Disney World Resort holiday tradition that has been part of the Grand Floridian Resort experience for more than two decades is officially not coming back, and the disappointing Gingerbread House news landed on what was otherwise a week full of happy, festive announcements from the Central Florida vacation destination.

Walt Disney World Resort’s pastry team had been constructing a life-size Gingerbread House in the lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa every holiday season since 1999. When the structure didn’t appear in 2025 amid ongoing lobby renovations — including the installation of The Perch, the resort’s new birdcage-shaped lobby bar — many guests assumed the absence was temporary. That assumption turned out to be wrong.

On June 24, theme park journalist Scott Gustin announced that Walt Disney World Resort had officially confirmed that the life-size Gingerbread House would not be returning to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Gustin shared the news on X (formerly known as Twitter):

The Grand Floridian gingerbread house will not return this holiday season. Instead, Disney’s culinary teams will create new miniature holiday displays for the resort. More details, including details about gingerbread displays at other resorts, will be shared later this year.

Rather than the towering life-size structure guests had come to associate with a Grand Floridian holiday visit, Walt Disney World Resort’s pastry artists will create miniature gingerbread displays for the Victorian-style lobby and other Central Florida Disney Resort hotels. The resort hasn’t yet shared what those displays will look like or where exactly they’ll be placed.

One practical question the change raises is what will happen to the handmade gingerbread and holiday treats that cast members typically sell directly from the life-size Gingerbread House. Whether those purchases will be available elsewhere in the lobby during the 2026 holiday season hasn’t been addressed.

More details about the miniature displays are expected to be released later this year.
