Disney World Removes Stitch From Popular Location, Return Uncertain
Disney World guests have gone months without seeing one of the most recognizable versions of Stitch, and there’s still no firm date for his return.
The popular Disney character disappeared from a familiar location during the summer. While reports indicate his absence should be temporary, September has arrived, and Stitch is still not back at his longtime spot.
And it’s left fans with one key question: When will Stitch finally return?
Stitch Has Become Hard To Miss at Disney World
Stitch has remained a major Disney character since Lilo & Stitch (2002), and guests don’t have to look very far to see his influence around Walt Disney World.
Merchandise featuring the blue alien remains widely available across the resort, and guests can still find Stitch through character appearances. Disney has continued putting the character front and center following the live-action Lilo & Stitch (2025), with additional merchandise keeping him visible to fans.
For guests visiting Disney Springs, however, one version of Stitch became especially familiar.
A massive Stitch figure sat above an entrance to World of Disney for years. Beyond simply watching over guests as they entered the enormous Disney store, Stitch could spit water toward people walking below.
That made him more than another piece of theming. He became a recognizable part of arriving at World of Disney.
Then, during the summer, he disappeared.
A Familiar Disney Springs Sight Vanished in July
Disney removed the large Stitch figure from World of Disney in July 2026.
Reports indicate that Stitch was taken down for refurbishment and is expected to return to his previous position above the store eventually. What remains unclear is how long that process will take.
It’s now September, and Stitch is still missing from the entrance.
Disney hasn’t announced a specific return date or provided a detailed timeline for reinstalling the figure. What initially could have been a relatively brief absence has now lasted for roughly two months.
Until recently, guests also had few clues about where the figure had gone.
That’s finally changed.
An Aerial Photo Reveals Where Stitch Went
Aerial photographer Bioreconstruct recently captured a photo showing the Stitch figure away from World of Disney.
It’s an interesting development, but the picture doesn’t provide many answers about the refurbishment itself.
Only the back of Stitch is visible in the image. He appears to be away from his normal Disney Springs location, and there isn’t anything immediately visible suggesting that his return is right around the corner.
Still, an aerial image can only tell us so much.
Work could be taking place where it isn’t visible in the photograph. Disney could also reinstall Stitch relatively quickly once the refurbishment reaches that point.
For now, the photo mainly confirms that the familiar figure remains elsewhere while guests wait for his return.

The Holidays Could Bring Stitch Back
One possible return window has started to emerge.
Reports suggest that Stitch could return to World of Disney in time for the 2026 holiday season. If that happens, November would make sense as a potential timeframe, as Walt Disney World begins rolling out its Christmas celebrations that month.
But there’s an important distinction here: Disney hasn’t announced that date.
The company hasn’t confirmed a November return, nor has it publicly established a deadline for completing the refurbishment.
That means any November timeline remains speculation unless Disney provides an update or guests suddenly see Stitch back above the store entrance.
Fortunately, fans visiting before then aren’t completely out of luck.
Stitch Is Still Around Walt Disney World
The World of Disney figure may be missing, but Stitch himself hasn’t disappeared from Walt Disney World.
Guests can still meet Stitch in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom. That allows fans to see the character while they wait for his much larger counterpart at Disney Springs to return.
Stitch also maintains a presence at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, a natural fit given the tropical atmosphere and his connection to Lilo & Stitch (2002).
Those appearances make his absence at Disney Springs a little easier for Stitch fans, but they don’t replace one of the more unusual sights at World of Disney.
Disney Still Hasn’t Given Guests a Date
Nearly two months after his July removal, Stitch remains away from his familiar home above World of Disney.
The good news is that reports continue to describe the removal as a refurbishment rather than a permanent change. His recent appearance in an aerial photo also confirms exactly where the massive figure has ended up.
What we still don’t have is a firm timeline.
A holiday-season return may happen, and November remains one possibility based on those reports. Until Disney announces something official, though, there’s no guarantee.
For now, guests walking into World of Disney will have to do so without Stitch watching from above — and occasionally spitting water.
