It’s the end of an era—and for fans of classic Disney, this one’s going to sting.
After more than 30 years of laughter, 3D glasses, and that unmistakable Muppet magic, MuppetVision 3D has officially taken its final bow at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney recently filed a permit for interior demolition on the building, confirming what many had feared since the attraction’s closure in June 2025: the theater is being gutted to make way for something new.
And this time, it’s not just a refurbishment—it’s a full goodbye.
A Curtain Call for Kermit and the Gang
MuppetVision 3D wasn’t just another theme park attraction. It was the last project Jim Henson worked on before his death, making it a rare and emotional connection for fans of the Muppets. The show blended live-action, 3D effects, animatronics, and classic Muppet humor in a way that only Henson’s team could.
When the attraction closed, fans gathered one final time—many dressed in Muppet tees, some singing “Rainbow Connection,” and all sharing in the bittersweet moment. Even Jim Henson’s daughter, Heather, showed up for the heartfelt farewell.
Say Hello to Monstropolis
The demolition is part of Disney’s bigger plan to introduce a Monsters, Inc.-themed land in the area. According to the new permit, the building will become home to the “Glob Theater,” where a fresh Monsters-themed show will entertain guests.
And that’s not all. Disney’s completely wiped Muppets Courtyard from its maps and digital apps. PizzeRizzo, Mama Melrose’s, and other familiar spots are now officially closed, setting the stage for an entire Monstropolis experience—complete with a “flying doors” roller coaster inspired by the Pixar films.
Muppets Fans Left Empty-Handed
Despite the passionate fanbase behind MuppetVision 3D, Disney didn’t roll out any commemorative merch or send the attraction off with the kind of tribute many felt it deserved. The silence was loud, and fans took to social media to share their disappointment.
To some, the decision to replace the Muppets with Monsters feels like a loss of identity for Hollywood Studios—trading quirky charm for modern IP power.
A Possible New Beginning?
Interestingly, the Muppets may not be entirely gone. Disney has announced plans to give Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster a Muppet-themed makeover in 2026. Whether that’s enough to ease the sting of MuppetVision’s removal remains to be seen.
But one thing is certain: the original MuppetVision theater is gone for good. And for many fans, it wasn’t just a show that disappeared—it was a little piece of magic.
