Three Days Later: Disney World Officially Threw Out Pieces of Muppet*Vision 3D

It’s been just three days since Muppet*Vision 3D closed its doors for the final time at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and already, fans are left grappling with the reality of the attraction’s closure. The farewell on June 7, 2025, saw thousands of Jim Henson fans flocking to the park, many waiting in long lines that stretched all the way to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge for a last glimpse of Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the gang.

The closure of Muppet*Vision 3D didn’t come as a complete shock. Rumors about the 34-year-old show’s demise had swelled for months after Walt Disney Imagineering unveiled plans for a new Monsters, Inc. (2001) themed area at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at D23 Expo 2024. Concept art indicated that the new area might take over Muppets Courtyard or Animation Courtyard, which caused concern among Muppets fans. Despite the protests and pleas to keep Jim Henson’s final creation alive, Disney ultimately made the decision to close the attraction and the surrounding Muppets Courtyard.

In addition to Muppet*Vision 3D, other staples in the area, including Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano and PizzeRizzo, also posted official closing dates. But as Disney moves forward with its plans, it hasn’t left the Muppets behind: Walt Disney World Resort also announced a Muppets Mayhem retheme of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, set to open in 2026.

The sadness of the Muppet*Vision 3D closure is still fresh, and a recent photo has made things even harder for fans to process. A backstage image shared by X (formerly Twitter) user @PatTheThief shows dozens of seats from Muppet*Vision 3D discarded in a dumpster at Walt Disney World Resort. The image stirred up even more emotions among fans, with many heartbroken to see such an iconic part of the attraction tossed aside.

It seemed as though Disney was tossing out pieces of Muppet*Vision 3D so soon after the attraction’s closure, fueling further grief from fans. However, there’s more to the story.

These aren’t the seats from the final theater setup. In fact, this particular batch of seats was replaced back in 2023, long before the closure was announced. It’s also important to note that Disney is hosting a cast member-exclusive event on June 10, 2025, to celebrate Muppet*Vision 3D, so the remaining seats in the theater will likely stay put for now.

The current seats may be reused, perhaps with new upholstery, in a future Monsters, Inc. attraction that will replace Muppet*Vision 3D.

Disney has promised to preserve Muppet*Vision 3D for fans, but provided sparse details about the project. Details about the upcoming Monsters, Inc. attractions remain scarce, and their exact opening timeline remains unknown.
