Disney World Expansion Confirmed: Massive Galaxy’s Edge Update Set for 10-Day Countdown

Disney World is heading into one of its busiest stretches in recent memory. Across the resort, guests are watching new entertainment offerings debut, attractions evolve, and entire sections of the parks continue to transform ahead of the summer season. Nearly every park has something new arriving this month, but Disney’s Hollywood Studios may be getting the most attention of all.

The park continues pushing deeper into immersive experiences, and Star Wars fans now have a major reason to start planning another trip. In just days, a brand-new addition will officially arrive inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, bringing one of Disney’s most popular modern characters directly into the action.

Galaxy’s Edge Still Draws Massive Crowds

Since opening in 2019, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has remained one of the biggest draws anywhere at Walt Disney World. Disney went far beyond building a typical themed land and instead created an environment where guests feel fully surrounded by the Star Wars universe.

From walking through Black Spire Outpost to flying the Millennium Falcon itself, the land quickly became one of the most detailed expansions Disney had ever attempted. Guests continue crowding into Oga’s Cantina, building lightsabers, and spending hours exploring Batuu years after the land first debuted.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance still dominates wait times at Hollywood Studios, but Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run has quietly remained one of the park’s most interactive attractions. The ride lets guests take control of the famous ship while completing missions for Hondo Ohnaka.

Now, Disney is finally refreshing that experience in a major way.

A Popular Star Wars Ride Gets a Major Update

Disney confirmed that a new mission featuring Din Djarin and Grogu will officially join Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run on May 22.

The addition arrives alongside the theatrical debut of The Mandalorian & Grogu (2026), allowing Disney to connect its film and theme park storytelling more directly than ever before.

While Disney has not revealed every detail of the new adventure, the company confirmed that guests will join Mando and Grogu aboard the Millennium Falcon in an updated storyline inside the attraction.

That matters because Smugglers Run has stayed mostly the same since Galaxy’s Edge opened. Unlike Star Tours, which constantly rotates scenes and destinations, Smugglers Run has largely kept the same core structure for years.

Adding characters from The Mandalorian instantly gives repeat visitors something new to experience.

Grogu also remains one of Disney’s biggest breakout characters in years. Disney clearly understands how popular both Grogu and Din Djarin remain with fans, and bringing them into Galaxy’s Edge feels like a natural fit for the future of the land.

Disney World Keeps Stacking New Additions

The Star Wars update is only one part of Disney’s packed May schedule.

At Hollywood Studios, Disney continues preparing for the future transformation of Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster into Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets. The park is also adding Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!, another new stage offering focused on younger families.

The upcoming Walt Disney Studios Courtyard will also replace Animation Courtyard as Disney continues modernizing portions of Hollywood Studios.

Elsewhere around Walt Disney World, EPCOT is preparing to bring back Soarin’ Across America beginning May 26. Many longtime fans have waited years to experience the original version again.

Animal Kingdom is also getting Bluey’s Wild World as part of Disney’s larger summer entertainment rollout aimed at families with younger children.

When all of these additions are viewed together, it becomes clear Disney wants as much fresh content in place as possible before summer crowds fully arrive.

A Big Summer Ahead for Star Wars Fans

Galaxy’s Edge already feels essential for many Disney World visitors, but this new Smugglers Run mission could easily become one of the land’s biggest updates since opening day.

Disney continues to prove that Star Wars remains one of the company’s biggest priorities in the parks. And if this new Mandalorian storyline proves successful, it would not be surprising to see even more rotating missions added in the future, eventually.

For now, though, Star Wars fans only have a short wait left before the next adventure officially lands at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
