Disney World Cuts Failing Hollywood Studios Addition Just Weeks Into Operation

Disney fans visiting Hollywood Studios might be in for a surprise when they experience one of the park’s newest attractions.

Although the addition opened just over a month ago, technical difficulties have reportedly led Disney to hide one of its biggest features from guests temporarily.

The attraction hasn’t closed, and families can still participate in the experience. However, visitors expecting the complete presentation could walk away disappointed.

The problems have reportedly happened more than once, raising questions about how reliably Disney’s newest experience can operate.

Here’s what guests should know before adding this attraction to their Hollywood Studios plans.

Disney’s Newest Attraction Is Already Having Trouble

Disney’s Hollywood Studios welcomed The Magic of Disney Animation on September 14, 2026, bringing a refreshed collection of experiences celebrating Disney’s animated characters.

Among the additions was Olaf Draws!, a drawing attraction featuring the lovable snowman from Frozen (2013).

The experience combines a traditional Disney animation lesson with an impressive Olaf Audio-Animatronic that moves, jokes, and interacts with visitors.

Guests follow along with an animator as they learn to sketch Disney characters, while Olaf adds his familiar personality to the presentation.

For families, it’s a chance to slow down and enjoy an activity without waiting for another thrill ride.

Unfortunately, the attraction’s first several weeks haven’t gone entirely as planned.

Olaf’s animatronic has reportedly experienced repeated technical problems, forcing Disney to adjust the presentation when the figure cannot perform normally.

And that means guests don’t always get the experience they expected.

Disney’s Animatronic Has Disappeared From View

The biggest issue involves the attraction’s main character.

Visitors attending Olaf Draws! have reportedly encountered performances where the Olaf animatronic isn’t visible at all.

Instead of watching the snowman move and interact with the audience, guests find that Disney has concealed the figure.

The problem has occurred on multiple occasions since the attraction opened, suggesting Disney has had to rely on its backup presentation more than once.

That’s particularly frustrating for families who specifically visit to see Olaf.

After all, the animatronic isn’t just another decoration inside the building. It’s what makes this drawing experience different from the animation classes Disney has offered before.

Olaf’s movements, expressions, and playful interactions help make the activity feel like an experience with the character rather than an ordinary art lesson.

Disney hasn’t publicly explained the exact cause of the recurring difficulties or provided a permanent resolution date.

However, the attraction doesn’t necessarily shut down when Olaf stops working.

What Happens When the Addition Isn’t Available?

Disney has a backup presentation that allows Olaf Draws! to continue operating during technical difficulties.

The alternate version, commonly called B-mode, removes Olaf’s physical performance from the experience while keeping the drawing lesson available.

According to WDW News Today, Disney uses drapes to hide the animatronic whenever it cannot function properly.

The attraction then switches to a different prerecorded presentation, during which the animator acknowledges that Olaf isn’t available.

Guests still receive drawing instructions and can create their own Disney character artwork.

However, the experience loses the animatronic’s movements and usual interactions.

It’s a practical solution that allows families to enjoy the activity instead of having their session canceled entirely.

Still, there’s an obvious difference between participating in a drawing lesson and watching Olaf come to life right in front of you.

For an attraction that opened so recently, these recurring interruptions could leave some guests questioning whether they should wait until the technical problems improve.

Hollywood Studios Still Offers Plenty of Alternatives

Fortunately, The Magic of Disney Animation includes several other experiences that families can enjoy.

Character meet-and-greets give visitors opportunities to encounter favorites such as Mulan, Rapunzel, Goofy, and Chip ‘n’ Dale.

Guests may also spot surprise characters around the courtyard, with the White Rabbit and Jiminy Cricket among those reportedly seen greeting visitors.

Families with younger children can explore Drawn to Wonderland, a playground inspired by Alice in Wonderland (1951).

Another option is the Once Upon a Studio Theater, which presents the animated short Once Upon a Studio (2023). Special effects make characters appear along the theater walls during the presentation.

Visitors can also stop by the Enchanted Art Gallery, where scanning a MagicBand+ or park ticket activates animated Disney portraits.

Treasures Untold offers another experience nearby, displaying familiar Disney items such as Jiminy Cricket’s gold star pin, Kuzco’s crown, and Scrump, Lilo’s beloved doll.

These additions give families several ways to enjoy the area even if Olaf Draws! isn’t offering its complete show.

Will Disney’s New Attraction Improve?

Olaf Draws! remains operational despite the reported technical difficulties, and Disney’s alternate presentation ensures that guests can continue participating.

However, the attraction’s biggest selling point isn’t always available.

Disney hasn’t announced when the recurring problems might be permanently resolved, leaving visitors uncertain about which version they’ll encounter.

For now, families hoping to see Olaf’s full performance should understand that the experience may differ from what Disney originally introduced.

Hopefully, the attraction’s technical issues will become less frequent, allowing more guests to enjoy the complete show.
