Disney Unexpectedly Ropes Off ‘Star Wars’ Ride Oct. 28 as Frustrated Guests Turned Away

Disney World visitors hoping to get an early start at Hollywood Studios today, October 28, are facing an unexpected setback. Two major attractions failed to open with the park this morning, leaving guests scrambling to adjust their plans.

For families who arrived at 9 a.m. hoping to experience popular rides before the crowds increased, the situation quickly became frustrating. One attraction resumed operations shortly afterward, but another remained unavailable nearly two hours into the day.

Unfortunately, these aren’t the only operational difficulties affecting some of Hollywood Studios’ biggest experiences.

Disney World Star Wars Ride Remains Unavailable

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance failed to open this morning at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, disappointing guests who headed toward Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

The attraction transports visitors into a battle between the Resistance and the First Order, combining elaborate effects with multiple ride systems to create an immersive adventure.

Rise of the Resistance remains a major priority for many Hollywood Studios visitors, particularly families hoping to experience the attraction without spending hours waiting.

However, guests arriving at the entrance this morning discovered that Disney wasn’t allowing anyone to ride.

Cast Members stationed outside informed visitors that Rise of the Resistance was temporarily unavailable. Unfortunately, they couldn’t provide an estimated reopening time.

Nearly two hours after Hollywood Studios opened at 9 a.m., the attraction remained closed.

Disney hasn’t explained what caused today’s delayed opening.

Earlier in October, the company filed a permit involving unspecified construction work at Rise of the Resistance. However, there’s currently no confirmed connection between that permit and the attraction’s operational problems.

Another Star Wars Attraction Also Failed to Open

The situation inside Galaxy’s Edge was especially disappointing because Rise of the Resistance wasn’t the only attraction experiencing trouble.

Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run also failed to open when Hollywood Studios welcomed guests at 9 a.m.

The interactive experience allows visitors to board the Millennium Falcon and take different positions during a mission aboard the famous spacecraft.

With both attractions unavailable, guests hoping to enjoy Galaxy’s Edge first thing in the morning couldn’t experience either of its two major rides.

Fortunately, Smugglers Run returned to operation shortly after the park opened.

That gave Star Wars fans at least one attraction to enjoy while Rise of the Resistance remained closed.

Still, the interruptions created problems for families hoping to complete both experiences before moving elsewhere in Hollywood Studios.

Instead of following their original plans, visitors faced the possibility of returning later or choosing other attractions.

Hollywood Studios Has Another Attraction Problem

Today’s Star Wars difficulties follow recent operational interruptions involving another popular Hollywood Studios attraction.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets has experienced delayed openings, including occasions when the roller coaster wasn’t ready to welcome guests at the beginning of the day.

For visitors who enjoy thrill rides, those delays can create an immediate problem.

Many families arrive at Hollywood Studios with a specific plan, often heading directly toward attractions they expect to have longer lines later.

When those rides aren’t operating, guests must decide whether to wait nearby, visit another attraction, or return later.

Having several popular experiences encounter difficulties around the same time can make planning even more challenging.

Although temporary closures don’t necessarily indicate serious technical problems, repeated interruptions can make visitors question whether their favorite attractions will be available when they arrive.

What Today’s Closures Mean for Disney Guests

Hollywood Studios is home to several attractions that regularly draw substantial crowds, including Slinky Dog Dash, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, and Rise of the Resistance.

When a major ride unexpectedly becomes unavailable, visitors may move toward other experiences, potentially increasing wait times elsewhere.

For guests visiting today, staying flexible could make a significant difference.

The My Disney Experience app provides attraction status information, making it an important resource when rides experience unexpected interruptions.

Families with Lightning Lane reservations should also check for changes or recovery options if their selected attraction becomes unavailable.

Rather than spending the entire morning outside a closed attraction, visitors may find it easier to explore another section of Hollywood Studios until additional information becomes available.

Disney Guests Face an Uncertain Wait

Today’s interruptions serve as a reminder that even carefully planned Disney World visits can encounter unexpected problems.

Rise of the Resistance remained unavailable nearly two hours after opening, while Smugglers Run experienced a shorter delay. Recent difficulties involving Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster have also complicated early morning plans.

As of the latest reported update, Disney hadn’t announced an estimated reopening time for Rise of the Resistance.

That doesn’t mean the attraction will remain closed throughout October 28. However, guests hoping to experience the popular Star Wars ride will need to monitor its status until Disney resumes operations.
