Two Guest-favorite Disney World attractions are in the running for a very prestigious award. But the winner will have to beat out the other Disney World attraction nominated for the award–and a Disney Cruise Line onboard offering, which has also been nominated.
Think of it as a competition between siblings.
Two of the most popular attractions at Walt Disney World have been nominated to be honored at the upcoming Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards.
EPCOT’s first-ever roller coaster attraction, Guardians of the Galaxy: COSMIC REWIND, was nominated in the category of Outstanding Visual Effects in a Special Venue Project, as was Disney World’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, the Resort’s two-night immersive experience that first opened in March 2022. A third Disney-owned attraction was also nominated for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Special Venue Project, but you can’t find it at any Disney Park.
Instead, the third Disney contestant in the 21st Annual Visual Effects Society Awards is the Avengers: Quantum Encounter interactive restaurant aboard Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Wish.

Global nominating panels took place on January 14 for the awards, followed by a vote by the nomination judging panel. On January 17, nominations were announced, and an online virtual voting booth opened on January 23 and remained open until February 3, but only to members of the Visual Effects Society.
According to the VES contest rules, special venues include attractions that are “specifically set up to project large-format films (e.g. IMAX or OMNIMAX theaters), theme park theaters that may include a motion-based ride or custom headsets, museums, world fairs, and similar venues, outdoor mapped projections and live theatrical productions.”
The Visual Effects Society recognizes “visual effects artistry and innovation in film, television, commercials, and video games and their creators in 25 categories.”
The 21st Annual VES Awards Gala is scheduled for February 15, 2023.
