The family Madrigal is on the cusp of getting a whole heck of a lot bigger.

In 2021, Disney released its newest animated film, Encanto, which told the story of the magical Madrigal family. The story revolved around Mirabel Madrigal, the only one born into her family without any magical abilities. This caused Mirabel to be cast aside by her grandmother, since she wasn’t like everyone else. Of course, Mirabel thought she was not good enough, but she learned that she was the key to everything that made her family special.

Encanto was an absolute hit, and its iconic song, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”, is one of the most popular Disney songs of all time. The song even topped the Billboard Hot 100, a status even “Let It Go” from Frozen (2013) could not achieve.

Encanto remains incredibly popular and beloved by Disney fans around the world. The film is so beloved that, in early April 2024, Disney announced that Encanto would officially be coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park at the Walt Disney World Resort. The new land will be a part of the area known as “Tropical Americas” and will also feature an area dedicated to the Indiana Jones franchise.

The Tropical Americas will take the place of what is currently DinoLand U.S.A.

But, according to Disney Parks Chairman, Josh D’Amaro, they might not stop at Walt Disney World.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, D’Amaro said that it is possible that an Encanto-themed land — or even one themed after the Pixar film, Coco (2017) — could be coming to the Disneyland Resort.

“We will have enough room to build the equivalent of another Disneyland Park. And so then you start to think about, ‘Well what can we do here?’ ” D’Amaro says. “We haven’t told anything, any stories on Wakanda. We haven’t told any stories on Frozen, although it’s a 10-year old franchise. You think about franchises like Coco and Encanto. We almost have an endless stream of stories that we can tell.”

Disney will most likely soon have the space to bring new lands and stories to life at Disneyland Resort because the massive expansion project, DisneylandForward, has been approved.

On April 16, the Anaheim City Council approved the plans for DisneylandForward. Another vote must be taken on May 7, and if that passes as well, Disney will have the authority to begin construction.

DisneylandForward will see a third theme park built alongside Disney California Adventure. Walt Disney Imagineering will create a new theme park that will feature 16 new rides and attractions, but we do not know what new lands Disney is planning. Disney has teased everything from lands dedicated to Peter Pan (1953), Tangled (2010), Frozen, Zootopia (2016), and more.
