For nearly a century, The Walt Disney Company has been creating iconic short films, TV shows, and movies. Classics like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Sleeping Beauty (1959), The Little Mermaid (1989), Frozen (2013), and Encanto (2021) have become synonymous with Disney, captivating fans with their heartwarming stories and forming the backbone of the company’s success.

However, not every film has been a hit. Over the years, Disney has faced its share of flops, with films like Wish (2023), Strange World (2022), Meet the Robinsons (2007), and Treasure Planet (2002) failing to perform at the box office despite significant production costs.

Live-action movies have also struggled, including The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (2010), John Carter (2012), The Lone Ranger (2013), A Wrinkle in Time (2018), and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023), all of which underperformed.

When a film flops, the chances of it getting a sequel are typically slim, especially with Disney’s ongoing budget cuts. It doesn’t seem logical for the studio to invest in a sequel to a movie that initially failed.

Yet, against expectations, one forgotten live-action film appears to be getting a sequel.

According to entertainment insiders, Disney is reportedly proceeding with the development of a sequel to the 2007 film Wild Hogs, starring Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence, and William H. Macy.

Wild Hogs starred Tim Allen, John Travolta, Martin Lawrence, and William H. Macy as four middle-aged friends grappling with their life choices. They embark on a road trip from Cincinnati to California, only to cross paths with a dangerous motorcycle gang, the Del Fuegos, who pursue them through New Mexico.

While the film wasn’t a complete box office disaster, it received mostly negative reviews from critics and audiences. On Rotten Tomatoes, Wild Hogs holds a 14% approval rating from critics and a 61% audience score.

Despite its box office earnings, Wild Hogs quickly fell into obscurity after its release. It was often overshadowed by Disney’s more critically acclaimed projects, making its announcement for a sequel, Wild Hogs 2, a surprise for many industry observers and fans alike.

Disney’s decision to bring back the original cast is indicative of the film’s potential appeal. The return of seasoned actors known for their comedic timing may enhance the sequel’s reception and success.

This is not the first time that a sequel to Wild Hogs has been in the works at the Mouse House. Following the original film’s success, plans for a sequel had been initiated, titled Wild Hogs 2: Bachelor Ride.

However, these plans were halted due to a series of other project pitfalls within Disney’s lineup. The critical and commercial failure of 2009’s Old Dogs, which featured three stars from Wild Hogs, further soured expectations for any follow-up movie.

Speculation surrounds whether Wild Hogs 2 will receive a theatrical release or be relegated to Disney+ streaming.

  1. I loved loved Wild Dogs! Few of the new Disney movies have me captivated like this movie! When I watch any movie my 1st question is, would I enjoy watching this movie again? I look for clean humor, clean language, and does it make sense? I grew up in love with John Travolta. But most of his movies are trashy. But this was by far the best!

I loved these are real life challenges we all face. We are not a biker, and not living that lifestyle. The police officer at the camping scene was real raunchy, and pucky. I was relieved not to see him again in the movie. This was a surprisingly cute movie! I picked it for my husband, but I think I enjoyed it more than he did and he enjoyed it. (I think what he enjoyed most was watching me laugh hard, with tears!) Adam Sandler had me curious to watch with my husband.

I would Soo love to watch Wild Hogs 2, only if the original cast is in the next movie. Any new crew would make it a lame follow up movie.
