End of an Era: Permanent Closure Date Set for Disney’s Rainforest Cafe
Another piece of Disney’s 1990s era may soon disappear.
Rainforest Cafe became a defining part of Disney’s restaurant lineup during the company’s late-1990s expansion boom. Guests could once find locations across Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, Disneyland Paris, and Tokyo Disney Resort.

The chain turned dining into a full attraction. Restaurants featured indoor thunderstorms, animatronic animals, jungle sound effects, and large aquarium displays. Disney leaned heavily into that kind of immersive entertainment throughout the era.
One Disney location has already disappeared.
Disneyland Resort permanently closed its Downtown Disney Rainforest Cafe (now a Star Wars store) in 2018 after nearly two decades of operation. The building still stands in Anaheim, though the restaurant never returned.
Other Disney-affiliated locations continue operating in Florida, Tokyo, and Paris — at least for now.
Disney Village Rainforest Cafe Reportedly Closing Permanently
According to reports shared online, the Rainforest Cafe at Disney Village is scheduled to permanently close later this year. Employees were allegedly informed of the closure timeline internally.
🔴 As rumors surrounding the Rainforest Café at Disney Village intensify, it seems that its permanent closure is indeed scheduled for September 15, 2026.
The announcement was reportedly made recently to the restaurant’s staff, but there has been no official confirmation yet.

The restaurant opened in 1999 as part of Disney Village’s wider entertainment district expansion. At the time, the area — then known as Festival Disney — focused heavily on themed restaurants, nightlife, and large-scale retail experiences outside the parks.
Rainforest Cafe quickly became one of the district’s most recognizable venues.
The exterior featured a giant volcano structure surrounded by tropical landscaping. Inside, guests dined beneath moving gorillas, elephants, snakes, and simulated lightning storms that played throughout the day.
The location also became one of the most visible restaurants outside the resort’s parks thanks to its placement near the hotel-side entrance to Disney Village.

Neither Disney nor Rainforest Cafe owner Landry’s has publicly confirmed the reported closure.
Still, the restaurant’s future has faced growing speculation as Disney continues major redevelopment work across the district.
Disney Village Continues Major Transformation
Disney Village has been undergoing a large-scale overhaul tied to the resort’s wider expansion plans.
In recent years, Disney introduced updated storefronts, redesigned facades, and newer dining concepts throughout the area. Much of the district’s original 1990s design language has gradually been phased out.
The changes are connected to the recent transformation of Walt Disney Studios Park into Disney Adventure World.

The park has received major additions, including a new Frozen land and Adventure Bay. The near future will include the addition of a Lion King area.
Disney has also shifted Disney Village toward a more contemporary visual style.
That approach increasingly left Rainforest Cafe standing apart from the district’s newer look. The restaurant remained one of the clearest surviving examples of the oversized themed dining trend that once dominated entertainment districts during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
For longtime Disney fans, the reported closure would mark the end of another 1990s destination tied to the resort’s expansion years.
