Disney Makes Slight Change to App for Rise of the Resistance Virtual Queue

If you have been to Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme Park recently, chances are you are well aware of the virtual queue currently available for the most popular attraction in the Disney Park. Star Wars Rise of the Resistance does not offer a normal standby line, but instead, you MUST have a Disney’s Hollywood Studio valid ticket, Park Pass, as well as a boarding group to join the virtual queue to ride the amazing attraction. The boarding pass has been a stressor for many Disney Guests… as 7:00 am rolls around and we all go crazy in the My Disney Experience App, hoping we get a boarding group for the day. If you don’t get one before Park opening at 7:00 am, you can try again with the second virtual queue opportunity at 1:00 pm. Sometimes Guests are placed into a “backup boarding group” at this point which means you may or may not have a chance to ride depending on how quickly the boarding group number before you is called. Now it seems like Disney is trying to make the process of obtaining a Resistance boarding group a little easier with a slight chance in the app.

We recently shared there will be a new possibility coming soon for Star War: Rise of the Resistance attraction. Disney has announced the “Disney Genie“. With this new program, we are now going to be charged for the former complimentary Fastpass program with a new upcharge called the “Disney Genie+”. This upcharge will get you on the less popular Walt Disney World Resort attractions for one set fee per day. BUT – if you want to get on the really popular attractions by skipping the line, you can pay to ride with Disney Genie’s new “Lightning Lane“. But how does the “Lightning Lane” affect the Rise of the Resistance virtual queue system? If you can’t snag a boarding group before they are all gone for the day, you can buy your way onto Rise of the Resistance with the “Lightning Lane”. While Disney has yet to release the cost of the Lightning Lane rides, no one likes to pay to ride an attraction. Hopefully, this slight app change below to Rise of the Resistance virtual queue will help in landing a boarding group.

Reporter Scott Gustin took to Twitter to share: “NEW: Disney updated its apps to include a slight change to the boarding group process. Your party is now pre-selected and confirmed. No checkboxes unless you tap “change party” (don’t) – just tap “join virtual queue” ASAP.” Photo below of the two screenshots shared:

Without having to check a bunch of boxes for your party in your Disney account, Guests can now simply pre-select their party so the moment 7:00 am rolls around they can quickly join the virtual queue without having to hunt for family and friends on their My Disney Experience App list. Just be sure everyone in your party has a Hollywood Studios Park reservation.

We suspect the same update in the app will apply to EPCOT’s newest attraction, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, when it opens as a Virtual Queue or Lightning Lane pass only, as Disney has announced Remy’s will be the second attraction with no standby line.
