Disney Announces a Live-Action ‘Moana’ and the Crowd Goes Mild – Does Anybody Want This?
It’s true that you can’t make everyone happy, but lately, it’s especially true when it comes to Walt Disney Studios.

When it comes to a company that is as big and powerful as the Walt Disney Company, fans will always be displeased by one decision or another. But when it comes to Walt Disney Animation Studios’ recent announcement regarding a live-action Moana adaptation, it seems that most everyone in the fandom is disappointed.

When Moana first debuted on the big screen in 2016, it was an instant hit. Moana is a beautiful princess who sings fun and catchy songs, and she’s played by the talented actress and singer Auli’I Cravalho. Maui, the mighty demigod, also sings fun and catchy songs and is played by the beloved Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Could anyone name a more perfect duo?
Not to mention, the representation of Pacific Islander peoples was long overdue, and many Pacific Islanders (including this one!) were thrilled to finally have an official princess.

However, we’d like to reiterate that the original film came out in 2016, making it less than ten years old. As a result, many fans are wondering: why are we getting a live-action Moana when it just came out?

When it comes to older Disney animation films, such as Cinderella (1950), The Jungle Book (1967), and Dumbo (1941), it makes more sense to make a live-action remake. After all, it’s been decades since these films were released; the times have changed, and some of the appeal may have been lost throughout the years.
But for Moana, the appeal is still fresh, alive, and well!

Although Disney was banking on more support, much of the general consensus from Disney fans and non-Disney fans remains lukewarm. Many fans are disappointed that Disney is making a live-action adaptation instead of a sequel, which is more interesting to many fans than a reboot.
