What a wild year and a half it has been for the cruise industry! While COVID-19 might have put a hold on our adventures across the big blue, each and every day we’re hearing more positive cruise news circulating which are fantastic signs we’ll soon be returning to sailing. The Disney Cruise Line has had their share of us and downs. A test cruise out of Port Canaveral was postponed due to positive COVID results. Thankfully, that postponed cruise has since set sail for a successful trip. The Disney Cruise Line also set sail with passengers for the first time in over a year for a successful test cruise in the UK! Plus, the Canada cruise ban is ending soon which will open the door for Alaskan cruises. Good things are happening! And now, Disney has announced they have hired their first Public Health Officer for the Disney Cruise Line.
As shared via Disney Cruise Line Jobs on Facebook: “Meet Dr. Lauana, Disney Cruise Line’s first Public Health Officer! After spending years on board as a Physician with Disney Cruise Line, Dr. Lauana returned to help create the new Public Health Officer role. From top 10 in her MBA program, to charting a new path in Public Health, Dr. Lauana continues to lead by example. “I’m so honored to be the first Public Health Officer and I’m giving it my all because it’s something really close to my heart. Disney is known by the world for the quality standards and this is not different at all. We go above because we want the best for the guests and the crew.”
How cruises may look after this pandemic is still a mystery, as Disney continues to work with test cruises to ensure a vacation with the Disney Cruise Line is a safe experience – while remaining as magical as we’ve experienced before COVID. Hiring Dr. Lauana, Disney Cruise Line’s first Public Health Officer, is a big step is showing guests they are taking every measure possible to ensure health safety. We enjoyed hearing from the Disney Parks Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Pamela Hymel, throughout the pandemic when it came to the beloved Disney parks. Now, we’re hoping to learn more from Dr. Lauana regarding what’s to come for the Disney Cruise Line fleet.
We do have some insight as Disney has shared information about their newest ship in the fleet, the Disney Wish. Dining experiences, entertainment, and more – it sounds like when this ship sets sail in 2022, the sailing experience will be even better than before!
