Disney Releases MAJOR ‘Freaky Friday 2’ Update!

While remakes, reboots, and sequels are becoming more popular than ever, there is one Disney movie that seems to get better with age. Freaky Friday was first released in 1976, starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster as a mother and daughter who just can’t see eye-to-eye.

Through some mystical intervention, they end up switching bodies and walking a mile in each other’s shoes. In the end, they realize that they need to both take the time to understand each other better.

In 2003, Disney released a reboot of Freaky Friday, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. The film was a hit and remains even more popular than the original.

Back in March, Disney confirmed that a sequel film was in the works. Better yet, Jamie Lee Curtis not-so-subtly hinted that she and Lohan would be returning as Tess Coleman and her daughter Anna. Curtis shared a picture of the two women on Instagram with “FFDEUX” in the caption. FF for Freaky Friday and deux, which means two in French.

And now, we have some BIG news to share! Disney has officially given us an opening timeline and revealed that more of the 2003 film’s original stars will be returning!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel will be released in 2025:

Mark Harmon and Chad Michael Murray are also returning for the sequel, joined by newcomers Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan. Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao, who all appeared in the 2003 film, will also return.

In the 2003 film, Mark Harmon played Ryan, the man who was going to marry Anna’s (Lohan) mother, whom Anna wasn’t very close to. Chad Michael Murray played Jake, Anna’s love interest and someone her mother did not want her to be around.

Tess, a psychiatrist, did not like that Jake was a little rough around the edges. In the end, both Tess and Anna realize the men in their lives are truly good people who care about them and want the best for them.

Disney also shared a little bit more about what we can expect from the second film. Freaky Friday 2 will take place years after the event of the first movie. Anna (Lohan) now has a daughter of her own and is preparing to become a stepmother.

“As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.”

Shortly after the recent news was released, Jamie Lee Curtis shared images of herself and Lindsay Lohan on Instagram. The images appeared to show the two of them on set, confirming that filming is under way!
