Disney Dining Review: Yak & Yeti Restaurant

Disney Dining Review: Yak & Yeti Restaurant

Asia, Animal Kingdom

I have walked by Yak & Yeti many times wishing I was eating there, but today I did eat there.  It is a rainy, lazy day in Animal Kingdom and the lights inside draw me in.  I am here with two guests who have also been looking forward to this meal. The décor is authentic and the ambience is relaxing and you feel at home quickly.  We are taken to a table by the window reminding us we are happy to be dry and inside for awhile.  It does not take us long to decide on our drinks and appetizers and they are soon brought to us.  I do wish the beverage prices were included on the menu.

I ordered a Yak Attack, $8.99, which is a frozen drink made with Mango Daiquiri, Bacardi Light Rum, and Wildberry flavors.  My companions ordered Berry Cherry Limeade, $3.29 and a small hot pot of tea, $3.99. For appetizers we chose to share Sesame Ahi Tuna with Ginger $11.99 and three pork Egg Rolls for $8.99. The Tuna arrives with a Wasabi sauce on the dish, fresh ginger, a sesame sauce for dipping, a slaw type salad and perfectly prepared Ahi Tuna.  This was delicious and very fresh in flavor and the presentation was beautiful.  The Pork Egg Rolls were the best we have had in a very long time. The wrapper was crisp but not greasy at all, the pork, cabbage and carrots were all minced and created a great flavorful egg roll. They are served with a sweet sauce that had a bit of a bite to it which I thoroughly enjoyed.

For entrees we enjoyed Crispy Mahi Mahi  $24.99, Malaysian Seafood Curry $22.99, and Kobe Beef Burger with Fries $18.99. The Crispy Mahi Mahi was crispy, but not heavy or oily at all. The sauce it is served with was delicious and complimented the fish perfectly. It is served with white rice and steamed carrots, mushrooms, and a variety of peppers which were slightly undercooked.  The Malaysian Seafood Curry had a delicate coconut curry sauce and a huge mound of rice.  The scallops and fish were very good and the shrimp had good flavor and is served with the tail (and some legs) still attached. The mussels were not the best in flavor and the clams were somewhat overcooked.  Fresh cilantro covered the bowl.  There are also pieces of tomato scattered about.  My companion said she would not order this dish again.  The Kobe Beef Burger was cooked to order at medium well, still having some pink but not red at the center.  It is slightly charred on the outside and is very large.  The burger is served with lettuce and tomato, a nice serving of French fries and a small dish of hot pickled cucumber slices.

Dessert was the Trio of Sorbets, $6.99, which consists of Raspberry with coconut shreds on top, Lemon with a mint leaf, and Mango with a Raspberry Sauce on top.  They were all delicious and went well with the Fortune Cookies. The Lemon was the favorite.  Having heard so much about the Mango Pie I felt I must try it.  It is so creamy! I liked the Mango flavoring and the cool, creamy texture of the pie.  It is served with a Raspberry sauce drizzled on the plate, fresh minced strawberries and mango pieces.  It is best eaten with part of each of these elements in each bite.  A Glacier Water $3.29 was also enjoyed, it tastes like a sparkling coconut water.  Our food and beverage total was $121.49. The prices on the menu and on the receipt are more than on the Disney website.  Our server was Claudia and she was wonderful!

F.A.S.T. Review

F-Food, The food was a range of good to slightly disappointing in the entrees.  There is a large amount of food served so if you are not that hungry perhaps purchase an appetizer or two.  I felt my selections were very good but I will probably not order the entrée again just because I would like to try other items on the menu.

A-Atmosphere, I liked the atmosphere very much.  If this was a busy night it would have been a bit less endearing to me to have the tables so close together though.  Take your time to look around at the décor as it is all authentic and interesting.  The tables and chairs are unique as well.

S-Service, Our server was knowledgeable regarding the menu and very attentive.

T-Tip, go hungry, or order light.

Cassie L. I am a lifelong Disney fan. I attended Walt Disney World in 1971, and was there during the opening week of EPCOT, and have visited the Disney Parks for than 30 times. I have had the privilege of visiting Disneyland as a child, and then again with my children. My family recently moved from the northeastern United States to the Walt Disney World area. I now have cast members in my family and enjoy hearing the magical stories at the end of a shift. I love visiting all of the parks and getting to try more Disney food… More »
