Disney Cruise Line Finally Caves to Guests’ Demands

Minnie Magic Band

Disney Cruise Line just made a major announcement about the future of their cruise experience! This morning, DCL dropped the news that their vacation vessels will now offer DisneyBand+ to enhance Guests’ time aboard. The “wearable technology” echoes the design and function of the MagicBands commonly used at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort. DisneyBand+ joins DCL in the summer of 2023. Here’s what you need to know:

The Disney Parks Blog boasts “hands-free convenience.” DisneyBand+ has the power to open the door to your room, charge your stored bank account for onboard purchases, and log your PhotoPass photos for later review.

Next, these all-day accessories promise to be “adventure-proof.” Most importantly for the cruise world, DisneyBand+ is waterproof, meaning they’re safe for pool days or beach and ocean excursions!

DisneyBand+ is also kid-friendly – an absolute must for any Disney vacation. The bands are for children aged three and up and may be used for access to kid’s clubs on the ship as well as in Castaway Cay.

The Disney Parks Blog also hints at some surprise “extra moments of magic” that come with DinseyBand+. The promotional video suggests the bands can light up and may even sync up with fireworks and other nighttime entertainment offerings.

If fashion is your main concern, then DCL has you covered there, too. DisneyBand+ should come in all the standard MagicBand colors/ styles, but it will also have three “Disney Cruise Line-exclusive designs” to choose from!

Functionality matters too! DisneyBand+ is rechargeable and is useable again and again. Use it aboard your current cruise or on your next magical trip – whether it be another Disney cruise or to the Parks and Resorts.

The first use of DisneyBand+ will be on select sailings of the Disney Wish this summer! For a chance to be one of the first to try out DisneyBand+, keep refreshing the DCL website, which is said to reveal which Disney Wish sailings will have them.

Away we go!

About Lana Porter

Lana has never lost a Disney Trivia night. Maybe it’s the hundreds of times she’s been to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, her love for Disney’s ’90’s era hand-animated musicals, or the fact that she’s often likened to cartoon characters, but Disney and its magic have a special place in her heart. Her favorite Disney experiences include the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival, eating Mickey Bars on the PeopleMover, and crying during the Magic Kingdom fireworks show. One day she hopes to be chosen as the rebel spy on Star Tours. When Lana isn’t Park Hopping, she’s at home reading books of all topics, watching her favs on Disney+, or snuggling her two cats, which she swears are not named after Disney characters. She loves surprising people with her knowledge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but admits she is still catching up with Star Wars. She is happy to combine her excitement for writing with her love for Disney-style storytelling and share what she can with the world!
