A Bittersweet Announcement

The Galactic Starcruiser was an innovative and immersive experience that transported guests into the world of Star Wars like never before. From the moment you stepped on board, you were welcomed into a universe of galactic wonders and adventures. The ship itself, known as the Halcyon Starcruiser, was a marvel of design and technology, resembling a luxury spaceship straight out of the iconic franchise. Every detail, from the interior decor to the crew members’ costumes, was meticulously crafted to provide an authentic Star Wars experience.

During your stay, you could participate in various activities and experiences tailored to immerse you in the Star Wars universe. From lightsaber training sessions to interactive storylines that unfold throughout your journey, every moment on the Galactic Starcruiser is filled with excitement and adventure. Guests can even interact with beloved characters such as Chewbacca, adding an extra element of thrill to the experience.

While this Walt Disney World Resort hotel was acclaimed for its immersive and interactive experience, many fans were turned off by the price per voyage. The Starcruiser cost a hefty $4,800 for a two-guest voyage that would last two days. Families of four shelled out $6,000 for their stay.

D’Amaro Speaks Out

When discussing the Galactic Starcruiser in a recent interview, D’Amaro explained that he felt the offering was hard to explain to guests. He said:

“This is something that had never been done before… It was difficult to even explain to the public, and I think it was incredibly brave for us to move into this space. … And this, to me, says Imagineering is still at its best today… Those learnings are being employed on the next experiences, which we haven’t even announced yet.”

This perspective is quite interesting to hear, especially the part where he mentions that lessons from the Star Cruiser have been employed in new, not-yet-announced offerings. Since the Starcruiser shuttered in September, fans have been wondering what would be done with the hotel location. With millions invested in the project, it would seem wasteful not to reuse the land in some way.

One possibility for the old hotel could be to scale back on some of the interactive elements to produce a more cost-effective experience for consumers. Another would be to open up the Starcruiser for daytime experiences and dining reservations. While the future of this land is still very much cloudy, it is exciting to see D’Amaro tease new and unannounced experiences coming down the Disney pipeline. Whatever it is, we hope Disney has something very special in store for this piece of property.

  1. D’Amaro said it was too hard to explain to guests?? Talk about not learning the lesson. A fake space 2 day cruise that costs double what a real 7 day cruise costs with a barely tangible connection to a beloved story saga property and the concept of a Sci fi space cruise was too hard a concept to explain to guests??
They would have been much better off making a resort with a Star Wars themeing and had some of the Cruiser experiences there, then once the resort itself is making $$ take a section of the resort and make it a Cruiser experience for less money. Instead of taking the idea of a Star Wars cruise right at face value and running with it without examining the entire thing, they should have looked at it incrementally, worked out the experiences and the associated costs and what they could actually do. It’s not like they didn’t used to do that kind of thing, look at how the Haunted Mansion was initially conceived and eventually built to be.
