Disney Can’t Explain Why Toy Story Land Rides Keep Crashing at Hollywood Studios

Toy Story Land has always been a centerpiece of Disney’s Hollywood Studios—a vibrant, larger-than-life backyard where guests shrink down to the size of toys and join Woody, Buzz, and the gang for some good old-fashioned fun. But lately, something strange has been happening in this fan-favorite land, and even Disney can’t seem to explain why.

A String of Technical Problems

Over the past several days, Slinky Dog Dash and Toy Story Mania—the two biggest rides anchoring Toy Story Land—have been going down repeatedly throughout the day. It’s become a frustrating pattern for both guests and Cast Members. On one recent morning, Slinky Dog Dash hit a 90-minute wait right after opening, only to shut down by 10 a.m. The coaster reopened, closed again at 4 p.m., reopened again, and then had more issues later in the evening.

Meanwhile, Toy Story Mania hasn’t been much better. The attraction closed around lunchtime, reopened after a couple of hours, and then went down again that same afternoon. These aren’t isolated incidents either—data from the past week shows Toy Story Mania has closed over a dozen times in seven days, while Slinky Dog Dash has gone down six times.

Guests Growing Impatient

Fans are starting to lose their patience, especially those who paid extra for Lightning Lane access only to find their ride unavailable. Disney typically compensates affected guests with a “Multiple Experiences” pass, which can be used later or on another attraction, but that solution isn’t ideal when these closures keep happening multiple times a day.

Social media threads have been filled with parkgoers sharing screenshots of the “Temporarily Closed” notice appearing over and over again in the My Disney Experience app. The frustration is clear—people plan their entire day around these rides, and when both are down at once, it throws off everything from lunch reservations to park-hopping schedules.

Theories But No Answers

So far, Disney hasn’t provided an official reason for the frequent breakdowns. Fans have speculated that weather-related sensors could be triggering safety protocols for Slinky Dog Dash, since it’s an outdoor coaster, while Toy Story Mania’s advanced projection and target-tracking system may be dealing with technical hiccups.

Still, the lack of communication from Disney has left visitors in the dark. The company is known for being meticulous about ride maintenance, but with these attractions going down so often, it’s clear something isn’t working as intended.

The Bigger Picture

When the headliners in Toy Story Land shut down, it affects the entire park. Crowds shift to Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway and Tower of Terror, ballooning wait times and creating bottlenecks. What should be one of Hollywood Studios’ most family-friendly areas is turning into a headache.

For now, guests are advised to keep checking the app and remain flexible—but with this many issues piling up, Disney may have to dig deeper to find out what’s really behind the problem. Until then, Toy Story Land’s magic is coming with an unexpected dose of chaos.
