Disney Begins New Muppets Land Construction at Hollywood Studios
The Muppets have barely settled into their new home at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney is already back to work in the area.
Just months after opening Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, construction has begun on another project nearby. This time, the focus isn’t on an attraction but on the guest restrooms located next to the coaster. While Disney has only described the work as a refurbishment, the timing has reignited discussion about whether the company has bigger plans for what many fans now refer to as Muppets Land.

For years, Disney’s Hollywood Studios has evolved through gradual updates rather than sweeping overnight transformations. This latest project fits that pattern, giving guests another reason to keep an eye on one of the park’s newest themed areas.
Construction Walls Arrive
Guests visiting Sunset Boulevard will now find the restrooms near Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets completely closed behind rolling planters and construction barriers. Disney has also installed a custom directional sign guiding visitors to alternate facilities farther down the street.
The company hasn’t explained the scope of the refurbishment or offered a reopening timeline. However, the extensive barricades and custom signage suggest this may not be a quick maintenance project.
For now, guests simply have to walk a little farther if they need restroom facilities while visiting this section of the park.
Disney Continues Investing in the Area
Although the refurbishment may seem relatively small, its location makes it noteworthy.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets represented one of Disney’s biggest attraction changes this year, replacing the longtime Aerosmith version with an entirely new storyline featuring Kermit, Miss Piggy, Animal, Dr. Teeth, and the rest of the gang.

Instead of immediately moving on to another section of the park, Disney has now started another visible project in the same neighborhood.
That doesn’t automatically mean more Muppet experiences are on the way. Still, it does show Disney remains focused on improving this area rather than treating the coaster as a one-and-done project.
Could More Muppets Move In?
Disney hasn’t announced any plans to theme the restrooms around the Muppets.
Even so, this refurbishment presents an interesting opportunity.
Imagineers have frequently used routine maintenance projects to introduce subtle storytelling touches throughout Walt Disney World. Updated architecture, themed signage, character references, background music, or decorative details can dramatically improve an area’s atmosphere without requiring a massive budget.
A restroom refurbishment could easily include playful Muppet jokes, backstage references, or colorful details that make the building feel like a natural extension of the attraction next door.
None of that has been confirmed, but it’s easy to understand why fans are wondering.
A Slow Expansion Makes Sense
If Disney ultimately wants to establish a recognizable Muppets-themed section of Hollywood Studios, expanding gradually would make perfect sense.
Large-scale lands often require years of planning and construction, but smaller improvements can happen whenever nearby buildings need routine updates. That approach allows Disney to strengthen an area’s identity over time while avoiding lengthy closures or major disruptions.

The restrooms, nearby food stand, shopping locations, and surrounding pathways all provide opportunities for future enhancements if Disney decides to lean further into the Muppets theme.
Whether that happens remains to be seen.
For now, Disney says only that the restrooms are being refurbished. But after launching Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets only a few months ago, it’s difficult not to notice that this has become the second active project centered around the same area.
It may turn out to be nothing more than a standard refurbishment. Or it could represent another small piece of Disney’s long-term vision for the Muppets at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Fans will have to wait until the walls come down to find out.
