Disney Forced to Immediately Scrap Fireworks After Local Authorities Announce Ban

Disney’s biggest nighttime entertainment has been forced to change with immediate effect.

A temporary fireworks ban has prompted Disney to revise multiple evening spectaculars during one of the busiest weeks of the summer, as extreme heat continues to impact theme parks around the world.

The latest disruption follows weeks of weather-related operational changes across Disney destinations.

At Walt Disney World Resort, the National Weather Service has placed Central Florida under a heat advisory for the second consecutive day, with heat index values approaching 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Disney has deployed portable fans to help cool cast members, while guests have reported soft attendance – particularly over the Fourth of July holiday.

Magic Kingdom has adjusted several entertainment offerings in response.

Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade has been modified, with costumed characters – who inevitably feel the brunt of hot temperatures and high humidity – remaining on floats while face characters walk the route. Earlier this summer, Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire also had its runtime shortened to reduce prolonged exposure to the midday sun.

Across the Atlantic, Disneyland Paris has faced similar challenges.

June’s heatwaves led to changes to Disney Stars on Parade, with costumed characters removed while face characters and dancers continued performing. Some outdoor character encounters were also altered, and several outdoor attractions – including Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and RC Racer – were unable to operate.

Now, local authorities have imposed an even bigger restriction.

Fireworks Removed From Disney’s Nighttime Shows

Beginning today, July 10, local authorities have banned fireworks, pyrotechnic displays, bonfires, and campfires across outdoor public and private spaces within the department after extreme heat created an exceptional wildfire risk.

The temporary measure remains in effect until July 15, 2026.

Authorities have also suspended the processing and approval of exceptional permits allowing the use of fire while the restriction remains in place.

The order directly affects Disneyland Paris’ evening entertainment.

Disney has confirmed that Disney Tales of Magic at Disneyland Park will continue operating without fireworks throughout the five-day restriction.

The show depends heavily on projection mapping, fountains, lighting effects, and pyrotechnics, particularly after Disneyland Paris removed its aerial drones from the production earlier this year.

The resort’s newer nighttime offering, Disney Cascade of Lights, has also been affected.

Staged on Adventure Bay in Disney Adventure World, the spectacular debuted with the park’s expansion earlier this year and combines hundreds of aerial and aquatic drones, fountains, water screens, projections, and fireworks. During the temporary ban, guests will instead see a modified version without pyrotechnics.

Bastille Day Celebration Also Impacted

Notably, the restriction covers Bastille Day on July 14.

Held annually in France, the national holiday commemorates the storming of the Bastille in 1789 and the beginning of the French Revolution. Disneyland Paris traditionally marks the occasion with a dedicated nighttime spectacular.

This year’s new Bastille Day production is said to feature Tinker Bell alongside Disney stories with strong ties to France, including Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Ratatouille, and The Aristocats.

Instead, Disney has confirmed the celebration will proceed without fireworks.

The restrictions stretch beyond the Disney resort.

Several Bastille Day fireworks displays planned in towns and cities across France have already been canceled because of the heightened wildfire risk.

In a statement, Disney said: “We can’t wait for you to discover this new show, which will take you on a journey around the world with Tinker Bell through beloved Disney and Pixar classics. Emotion and magic will light up the sky with a unique drone display and enchanting projections on Sleeping Beauty Castle.”

It added: “We are continuing to monitor weather conditions and guidance from the local authorities, which may require us to further adapt or cancel the show. Our priority is to offer you the best possible experience under the circumstances.”

Temperatures reached approximately 95 degrees Fahrenheit today, with similar conditions forecast for Bastille Day itself.

Fans have noted that the temperatures predicted for Paris during the pyrotechnics ban are similar to those experienced in Orlando throughout most of the year.
